I see what you mean about the vertical seaming being strong giving rectangles rather than squares. hopefully Angie will chime in with a definitive answer x

Garmenta and Kristen - thanks for the feedback on Eddie Bauer coats. The down fill is not a deal breaker for me, my main concern is staying warm. I like the idea of a puffer for those really cold days.

Louise - I wondered about the seaming, also. I'm an hour glass with rectangular tendencies. When I look at the rear view (view #4) of this coat, the vertical seams seem more pronounced to me than the horizontal seams. Maybe I'm just rationalizing here.

Should I keep looking for a coat with more vertical seaming?

Depending on your bodyshape you might need to be careful with the horizontal seaming across the coat here's angies blog post with puffer advice x http://youlookfab.com/2008/12/22/puffer-coat-101/

I have had puffers from the Eddie Bauer outlet for the last two winters and they have served me very well in the bitter Chicago temperatures. I don't have any issues with down, myself, but then I am often stone-hearted about things.

Eddie Bauer down coats are comfortable and wear like iron. Nothing will keep you warmer. Unless you have a strong moral objection to down, it's a good coat and a great deal.

Perhaps you could contact Eddie Bauer to ask how they harvest their down? That might ease your conscience (or give you a reason to lobby them to change!).

This must have been a one day only sale because I see it's now back to full price.

I am looking for a knee length puffer and just ordered this one in black from Eddie Bauer for $79.00, marked down from $179.00.

http://www.eddiebauer.com/cata.....ategoryId=

Pros: not bulky, feminine shape with princess seaming, cozy flannel cuffs and collar. Great price!

Possible con: down not synthetic fill. I think there has been some recent debate about this on the forum.

I would appreciate your opinions. I've only recently started looking at puffers, but this seemed too good a deal to pass up. I tried this one on in the store (they were out of my size) and liked that it was light-weight and fitted.

I need something very warm to wear in London next year (2011) when my son marches in the New Year's Day Parade.
