Suz, that is very helpful. I have been trying to resist my sales goggles. So far so good, as I know it's not an urgent need and I'm not sure enough of what would be best. I want it to be fun AND useful. Erring on lighter weight side would be better, both for temp and option of getting a nice fit, and then at least it would be in good rotation in the coat capsule, and if I learn I really could use something heavier, that's okay.

UF, I have seen the Lodge Parka. We ordered it for my daughter. The fit was wrong for her and it was also too heavy weight for her. And we live in Canada! Mind you, she is young and runs warm. But it was a big, bulky, heavy coat.

A lightweight puffer could be a great option for you, but the only way to know if this one will work is to order it and try.

Angie, thank you; happy post- Christmas!
Are you thinking the EB's shown are over- powered?
I liked the lightweight gray puffer you featured( LLBean?) but thought it might want a bit shorter style.

If you run cold, a lighter weight puffer is a great idea.

Thank you Shiny.. I think the EB launders well according to reviews. I may be too color- picky anyway.. As though I'll never have another option!
The S un Valley was not on sale (yet?!) so it seemed a big leap but I wish I could try it on to compare.
Thanks, biscuitsmom! I do run cold, but still, don't have a lot of experience knowing what " temp ratings" are best.

Shiny had some great points.... (of course ) I got my 1st ever puffer coat last winter (and I've lived in Mn all my life) and I cant believe what a difference it made. Mine is a 650 fill down coat (Laundry by Shelli Segal) and truthfully, I get too warm in it if the temp is about 30 degrees. But I have a lot of 'extra padding' shall we say.....all the options you posted are lovely, good luck with them

I'm probably not the best person to advise because I run hot, not cold. When I travel south, I take one of my lighter weight, packable puffers which is just fine and anything else would be overkill. I actually have been wearing those exclusively here in the north, because it's so far been a mild winter.

As for color, I don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices here. And again I'm not much help because I can see value in having more than one puffer. (I currently have 4 and I wear ALL of them 1. gold metallic 3/4 length lightweight; 2. taupe lightweight short; 3. black 3/4 lightweight; 4. white heavy weight 3/4 length.)

Ha! But if you can only have one, I have a slight preference for the taupe/darker silver for two reasons: 1) that's my own go-to puffer color at the moment; and 2) doesn't show dirt as fast.

My warmest puffer is white. I've had it for several years now. I find it stays crisp and clean as long as I never forget to wear a scarf (to prevent makeup from getting on the collar), and run it through the wash & dryer every now and then. It comes out looking brand new when I wash it. So if you do go with the lighter silver, read the laundry instructions carefully: if it can go in the wash & dryer at home, then that is a good thing. Some of these puffers cannot - they need dry cleaning or they'll loose too many feathers. I love my Bernardo puffer (the gold one) but it looses feathers like mad.

I decided Santa did not need to bring me a puffer for Christmas, but that I'd keep looking and consider it afterward, especially if still on sale or more so.

Am returning the Guess poly parka --decided against color, fill, and styling issues.
Really like the EB Lodge parka which i got to try on locally, and the light gray is closer to what I want color though maybe should be darker--I'm torn.
Love the top and bottom zip and it seems like very good quality. I like the almost-knee length, on purpose, as I have shorter jackets. Do NOT like fur-trimmed hoods, but it's removable. So many parkas have either the fur trim or a non-removable hood.

Then online I think the Sun Valley style looks very trim, with the angled baffles, and the taupey color would be my choice of the 3, but it's not in my gray-silver direction.

Don't laugh, since I live in mid-South, but I run very cold and after the polar vortex I thought I could use a warmer sporty coat to get me outdoors walking more, to just toss on without having to layer up so much, and to wear to work on our colder days. Lodge parka is rated 0-20 and I figured factor me in at running 10- degrees more chilly (meaning, when weather in 30's I'm really cold!) we mostly get 30's and some 'teens--but ha, so far this winter has not yet seen any really cold weather.

Do you think the EB parka is super overkill and I'll overheat in it, and should look at lighter weight fills? Also wonder if I would like a slightly darker gray, which might look less puffer-y than the lighter color, but it's hard to shop for these in my area--would have to order a lot online. i can't decide if I prefer the '"statement" the light gray makes vs. a more pewter is more for my coloring or looks more sleek, or what, since so far I haven't found this perfect color--see the Zella, which may also be lighter weight.

Any comments from the more winter-wise fabbers appreciated.

And Happy Holidays!
