Ok, I started playing with adjusting the drawstrings and straps. Just in case someone is thinking of getting this, I posted some pictures.

Bj1111, it is puffy, but not as bad as I expected! I suspect the Kensington would be less puffy looking, but the Trillium was slightly less expensive, it was rated for lower temps (I run fairly cold), and I was concerned about the fit issue.

I wore this parka twice yestetday, for two separate walks (maybe two hours total time). It was raw outside, in the 30's, moist, and blustery. I typically would have been shivering and tightly curled in. I removed the hood but had a hat and light gloves. I was comfortably warm,l.

I figured it would be too warm for the 30's but I can modulate the temp by removing/using the hood and adjusting the top/bottom zippers.

I think the hood throws it into arctic parka land and I felt more comfy/looked less puffy without it, but it will come in handy as the temps drop.
Did you try a Kensington? I thought you had one on the way.

Thanks Gaylene. My LL Bean coat came today too. My husband and I both agreed that the Trillium would be a better match for me, so the other coat is going back. I've been through a bunch of different puffers and I am glad I can conclude this search.

After considering all the other CG options, like the Kensington, I am keeping this one. I wore it without the hood for a stroll this evening (moist 40 degrees) and it was terrific.

Gorgeous colour! The fit looks just right for a Trillium. As you've mentioned, a Canada Goose parka has a totally different vibe than a fashion parka--the look is highly sought after by some, but doesn't appeal to others--different strokes for different folks. To my eye, it looks odd when I see people trying to make this kind of parka look more "fashionable" by sizing down for a more "shrunken" look--the outer shell starts pulling in strange places and the sleeves look too short to keep the wrists adequately covered.

As for layering under, I wouldn't be too fussed as the jacket is seriously warm and works best with a layer of air between the wearer and the jacket. It's that "dead" airspace that keeps you toasty.

Too puffy? This is the Trillium, size Medium. I went with the regular cut Trillium vs. the slim cut Kensington. My chest put me in the Large range but I was in between Sm/Med based on waist and hip (per usual). I figured the regular cut would give me more wiggle room. I have a wool/silk thermal layer and a thin merino sweater under it, there is more than enough room for another thicker layer, and I have more than enough arm/movement room.

Hmm. I'm wondering if I should try the Kensington. That would be slimmer/lighter weight.

I have an LL Bean parka on the way too.

Thoughts on how this size seems on me? This wouldn't be a fashion coat. I just want hard-core warmth that isn't too sleeping baggish.

Photos are from my 8 year old.
