Two! pairs of shoes my mom had and hadn't worn since before the pandemic literally disintegrated in the meantime. She took them out of the closet without realizing this and wore them to the doctor's office. She had to be given a pair of hospital slippers to return home in! Expensive comfort shoes can be great for a while but become unwearable as quickly as any others when our feet change. One hopes for longevity but there's no guarantee. But suddenly I find myself at least a half size up and with an arthritic big toe. I found myself suddenly worried at Runcarla &amp; Janet's stories (should I keep them around then, for when my feet shrink?) but I think the correct answer is definitely Angie's--our comfort level changes too. This is because I like to think of the shoe collection as a lifetime collection that I have built over decades, and I like to trot out an old pair every now and then.</p> <p>Well, this weekend I was rearranging my closet and tried to decide whether I should keep a pair of shoes I haven't worn in years. In thinking about it, I slipped into them. Lo and behold, I couldn't even get my foot in there! This led to trying on several other pairs from that era, and none of them fit! Easiest clean-out ever.&nbsp; </p>
