Perhaps this has to do with the individual style of jean? I have a pair of NYDJs, and I did have to size down...and they were still too big (they sag after a few hours). I bought a petite size.

Or maybe it has to do with body type?

Thanks, April; good to know. I find this to be true in petite-sized pants of most brands, even when they list measurements (other than length) to be the same. It may be the cut of the rise creates that too-small, pinched feeling. I generally size up in petites pants, or just buy regulars and resign myself to hemming. It's in jackets and tops that I find petite sizing to be a boon, because I'm short in the torso. In regular jackets the waist hits right at my high hip--NOT a flattering fit! By the way, that "barnyard odor" from the dye in your new jeans may be a sign that they were dyed traditionally, with natural indigo. Be sure to wash them alone, or with other dark blues before wearing. The smell, if it is indigo, should dissipate over time.

In case any of you are contemplating an update to your jeans wardrobe using NYDJ, read on.

You may know that their recommendation is to "go down one size for the perfect fit." Just an alert that while this seems to work in their regular sizes, it does not hold true in petites.

I sometimes order petites from them because the length is right and I don't have to get them hemmed. In a recent NYDJ order, I ended up sizing UP in petites.

It took much ordering and returning to figure this out, so hoping to spare others the same tedious process.

Also, the dye in the jeans I received has that heavy "barnyard" odor that new denim sometimes carries. My hope is that it will dissipate after multiple washings.
