Just FYI, these stretched out in the thighs quite a bit over the day. They were never tight but loosened significantly. I don't mind that look, and the waist did not sag (though I was wearing a belt which helped). Love them!

I have the same pants as Una (AG Nikki in black rip, size 28) and measured from crotchpoint across to the seam -- it's 10". The circumference all the way around is 23.5ish".

Hopefully Una can corroborate :)

Fit notes, in case you are curious: I'm a 28 or 29 these days, definitely 29 for normal skinnies. I got them in 28 because that was all that was left. Anyhow, they are roomy in the thighs and butt for me, a wee bit tight in the waist but not painfully so.

One more thing, Una. If you don't mind, would you measure the waistband and the thigh of the jeans just under the crotch? I'm thinking the 28 is the right size for me. That would help me tremendously!

Una, I hear what you're saying. However, for the hourglasses and pears among us, we have a few more critical measurement areas:-). The ratio among waist, rear and thigh is much more an issue for us in achieving the fit we want than waist alone. I so envy the ITs in the pants fit!

I'm not sure how much measurements will help. On me a size 28 is roomy and does not slide down. A 27 would easily fit but look more skinny. The 29 slid right down. 28 is my most common size in premium denim. My other AGs are skinnies in 28 and fit tightly. I think you just need to try them as we all vary in body shape and fit preference.

Bear in mind my "waist" - if you can call it that, ha - is closer to 27 inches, but it is very high up, above belly button and under my rib. If I went by waist measurement, I'd have ordered up in these. But they are not fitting at the waist -- they are fitting well below the belly button and pretty much anchored right above my high hip bone. At that place, I am more like 31 inches. Hips (on the hip bone itself) are about 33 inches.

I find that hip measurement laid flat, right above the crotch point, is a key one too -- need enough room here that you can sit without your thighs going numb, am I right?? In comparison, the AG high-rise skinnies I have in same size are tightest right in this measurement, and if they didn't stretch as much as they do, they'd probably annoy me too much when I sat. But they stretch out quickly. Whereas the AG Nikki's are quite roomy at this point. Really, i find them utterly comfortable and just-right loose everywhere - the only part that's snug is the waist, but that means no belt is required.

I analyze jeans to death, heh....

The yoke drop is just as important. If it was any longer, these jeans would not work on me, considering the back rise is 13 inches long, which is quite long for me. The pockets are also the right size and I love where they are placed -- closer in, rather than farther apart. Farther apart works better if you have a more generous rear, but mine is quite flat.

I also have LOFT boyfriend's in petite... I think they are size 2. I am happy to measure those as well, if anyone wants to know how they stack up to the Nikki's. I think they fit comparably, except the LOFT boyfriend's are baggier, especially in the thighs and rear. The back yoke drop is longer, pockets bigger too I think. Still cute as can be, just a different look.

Measurements for the size 26:

Waistband - 30 inches
... hard to measure this, the waistband is curved, laid flat it's 15 inches across the top of the waistband, and 15.5-16 at the bottom of it. I might have done it wrong... I'm not sure how Joyce's 27 measured 27? And my 26's are measuring 30 inches? Hmmmm! I do not think they stretched, even if they did, surely not a full 4 inches!

Front rise - 8.5 inches
Back rise - 13 inches with 6 inch yoke drop
Back pocket dimensions - 6 inch L x 5.5 inch wide

Hip Measurement, laid flat, seam to seam, right above crotch point - 20 inches in front. Back is hard to measure - it's wider. Looks like 24 inches.

Measurement flat, right below crotch point - 10 inches front, 12-13 back

Ankle opening - 11 inches

Comparison to other jeans I own:
I have AG high-waist skinnies, which are super super stretchy (so stretchy it's like wearing pajamas, and yes by end of day they have stretched a tad too much), also in size 26. I'd say they are comparable but the Nikki's of course are designed for a relaxed and loose fit.

I have AG mid/high rise boot cuts that have very little stretch at all, in size 26 and 27; I can't zip either of them at the moment, because of the lack of stretch.

I am also wearing Joe's Jean's, the Niyah skinny, which I'd say is a mid-rise, 10 inch ankle opening, also size 26. I'd say the Nikki's are comparable -- if you have the Joe's, you'll like the Nikki's and can safely order similar size. Of course, the Joe's are not meant to be a relaxed fit. I find the Joe's quite comfortable to wear, not too tight, not too painted on/sausage, just enough stretch, but not so much stretch they bag out by end of day.

Does that help?

Thanks, Joyce. I know there will be differences between jeans because of the fabric. My understanding is that there is very little stretch in these, which is what I want. I'm not really looking to compare the measurements to my other jeans though. I want to compare them to my body. My concern in particular, is which size--if any--gives me the relaxed fit in the thighs without huge gaping in the waist.

Hope you get your return sorted out!

Thanks Carter! As one of those on the fence, this is great. Perhaps some size comparisons to other jeans that people "know" would also be useful? I've got some great info from some, which I really appreciate, but just as I think I know what I'm going to do I see a comment from somebody else that confuses me again!

Joyce, if you got a tracking number from the post office, then you should be fine. If it goes missing, it's not on you, it'll be covered by the postal service, or Shopbop. At least, that's how it works in Canada... I had a jewellery return go missing and Canada Post and the company worked it out, and I got my money back.

Carter, the measurements may not be 100% helpful, only somewhat helpful.
I got the size 27. The waisband is indeed 27" and the rise is 8.5".
When I took them out of the bag they looked huge, much larger than my NYDJs which are mostly a size 2. I tried them on and they were tight on me. I then measured them against my favorite NYDJs which are stretchier and the AGs were 1" larger for the flat garment in all measurements, so 2" larger in all circumferences and still they were much tighter than my
nydj skinnies. The fabric from the AGs is minimally stretchy and I think that is where the difference is.
The waist is lower than I am used to in the front and back.
I would gladly take the other measurements to share with you but I returned them the next day.
I ordered the next size up so we will see if they gape in the back...
In the mean time I am unsuccessfully trying to track my return to Shopbop and the tracking number does not show up on their site. I hope I am not out of my $240, I don't think I will order from Shopbop again.
