Diana, I'm in the same boat. My issue is mainly the low hip/saddlebag area, but my shape is such that I'm narrowest right under the bust, and everything just sort of flares out from there. Hence my dislike for high-waisted A-lines because they just seem to emphasize that triangle tendency. Mid rises are great because they are cut with a gentler angle from waistband (actually at hip level) to low hip.

I'm comforted by the fact that many others (both here and on Angie's shorts thread) have the thigh issue too. For once my wide hips might actually be a benefit because I can size up on my shorts for the thighs and they still won't fall off. =P They sit lower on my waist but I actually prefer a lower rise anyway.

I find Loft shorts have historically been cut more generously in the thighs.

I thought I was the only one having thigh-fit issues! This must be a trend...I don't remember having this difficulty before, and my thighs are the same size as always. I'm really having a hard time finding shorts that fit in the thighs but aren't huge in the waist.

Fun shorts! I was in Target a couple weeks ago and looked for patterned shorts and didn't see anything. Maybe these are new or I was blind (a likely possibility).

Yes, JAileen, I was just thinking I should keep an eye out for vintage canvas hiking shorts, like the ones Pata and RR used to make. Higher-waisted with a wide, almost flared, leg and a 4-5" inseam. I didn't like those when I was younger and low-waisted everything was de rigueur, but I'm thinking they'd be perfect for me now.

LP, in Angie's shorts thread, I almost mentioned the old Royal Robbins shorts I've been wearing. They are canvas, and have some elastic in the waist. Very very baggy. I love them, but they don't make that style anymore.

OMG, Diana, I am right there with you on thigh fit. Almost every short that is comfortable -- not tight -- on my thighs is ginormous in the hips and waist, and just slides right down. What is with all the skinny leg shorts the past few years? I've even been noticing this in running and hiking shorts, where you'd think everyone would want some extra leg room.

Ha! I just posted these on the "shorts" thread! They come in solids, too, in a variety of inseam lengths and colors!

Diana, they accommodate my thighs quite well, so I'd say the fit is easy through the thigh. They are pretty straight, maybe ever so slightly flared but not enough to *look* flared, if you know what I mean. I think they would be worth trying!

Janet, those look great. My body type is very similar to yours so I'm tempted to give them a try. I also notice that shorts/skirts/dresses that look very short on models often look quite a bit longer on me at 5'5"!

Cute! Maybe I should go check them out. How is the fit on the thighs? That's my biggest fit issue - I find that a lot of shorts are too tight on the thighs, plus I prefer a more wide-leg fit on the leg rather than the straight or fitted leg of most shorts.

I was in Target for dog food and paper towels, but took a cruise through the clothing department. I tried on these shorts and liked them well enough that a pair came home with me.

For some reason, I'm not able to make this a Find on my phone, but here is a link. There are a few colors and prints -- they are the 5" inseam chino shorts. Great fit if you want a mid rise and are a bit curvy on the lower half. I'd say they're true to size since an 8 fit me well. Not stretchy at all.

Note: either the Target art department is stretching the heck out of the model's legs, or that model is 7' tall, because the photo makes the shorts look short! Trust me, they are longer than this on even long-legged me. :-)
