I will be returning a 2 in khaki to Beverly Hills or Century City if anyone is interested. I might return the navy but not yet. The SA at BH said the sale ends Wednesday. Maybe ends online today. Maybe I shouldn't return mine until we see if any fabbers have missed out on the sale price & then they can get it from me at the sale price. If anyone wants to tell me what they want me to do please post here.

Both CC and BH were out of the two by this morning, but Amy in Beverly Hills offered to have it shipped to me from another store for free... so yes, the 2 is on the way! I almost decided not to worry about it, but Claire had a good point about not wondering what if. It is coming from Palm Desert, so it should be here quickly.

Goldenpig I do think a 6 would fit you. According to the size chart I should be a 4. It depends how you want it to fit. You just had a baby right? I think you would fit into a 6 now & hopefully have it still fit if you lose weight. FWIW the actual waist measurement of my coat is 34" but my waist is 28".

Claire I am thinking along the lines of your suggestion, both to keep Burberry in khaki & buy BB in navy & also that what is the point of saving the Burberry. I am going to start an ask Angie thread with photos.

Elle, you look fantastic in all four of them, it's tough to decide! I think the BB's look great on you so if you want to save money, go with those! But I understand about the quality, sometimes it's worth it to go with the best.

I don't know why I want to try these--I already have two Kate Spade trenches! But sometimes you just have to try something to get it out of your system, KWIM? I always wanted a Burberry trench but I don't think it's worth it for me right now. So, do you think the 6 will be the right size? I normally wear 4 in coats, but now I just measured myself and I am 36-36-38 (ugh, that is depressing! I am a brick!). But if I went with the size chart I'd be between a 6 and an 8 (or larger than an XL if I went by my waist, LOL). My shoulders are 41 inches around, if I'm measuring correctly.

Elle, my internet was down all afternoon and I didn't see this thread until last night. When I tried to comment, I was kicked off again, argh!

First of all, thanks for starting this PSA. The fit of the Brooks Brothers coats looks so good on you has me questioning my size. I wish there had been a size down for me to try on just to make sure it was indeed too small for layering over a blazer. They had a coat 2 sizes down, but I didn't even want to tempt myself. I knew it would look great over just a shirt, but was afraid I'd go and buy another super-fitted coat that I couldn't get anything under!

You have some tough decisions to make girl! First of all, it amazes me how close the BB come to the Burberry. Second, the Burberry does looks better fitting, and I'm sure that once you've had one on, you will never forget what that kind of fit and quality feel like. The casual observer may not be able to tell the difference between the two, you will be able to tell.

You could buy the light Burberry and then for little more than the price of a cleaning/reproofing you could have a navy BB as a sort of insurance policy, something to pull out when your activities could threaten the lighter coat. But then you have to ask yourself if it's worth it to have a Burberry trench that you kind of 'save'. I will be interested to see what your DH thinks about all this, and how wonderful that he is such a fan of quality, win-win!

You have to know that it was your first trench pictures that started me hankering for one (well it's been on my level 3 shopping list). You looked so mysterious and glamorous, all at the same time. Whatever you decide, I hope you wear and enjoy the coat you end up with. You were made to wear a trench coat!

The other concern is that it has been more than 30 days since my initial Burberry purchase. I'm not sure that they will refund me but I will try them if I decide to do that. I have to admit I think I like the Burberry one better on me but I still like the BB & need to try one on right after the other. I haven't tried Burberry back on since the BB ones. Liz I think I can wear navy too so that might be the way to go. If BB come out with a better khaki next year I could get a light one then. I still want a light one & if it is cheaper I won't worry so much about stains etc. Still thinking about it. I will have to see what DH says. He has high expectations of clothing & always chooses the most expensive items without knowing the price. I'm not saying price equals quality. I should say he always chooses the higher quality, but often it ends up being more expensive.

Rae my skin is golden peach. No pink at all. I think it is the lighting but I agree to a certain extent. Lighter warm colours that are supposed to work on me, including beige, sand colors, don't look as good as dark colours near my face. Pastels, whites & neutrals that are light don't flatter me, not matter which colour family they are from, though cool ones are worse. I need deep colours near my face. The warmer the deep colours the better.

I dislike color systems, because I think skin tones are so varied. I can wear both warm and cool colors and enjoy mixing the two. Since I have not met you in person, I don't know, bit maybe you can wear some cool colors, too. It seems in some photos that you may have more pink in your skin than cream or gold, which is what I found for myself.

Rae the fabric in the Burberry Prorsum I'm wearing in this pic is a heavier stiffer cotton, similar to a Coach one I tried, which is also good quality if anyone isn't happy with the BB. It wasn't the right fit for me. The fabric in the Burberry London or heritage line is very similar to the BB. I'm embarrassed to mention this but if it helps anyone, the Burberry pictured here cost more than 10 times more than the BB. Rae the colour in my bathroom isn't accurate. But you know that you have one. It is a cooler colour. I am a Deep Autumn in the colour systems or just Autumn in some. Some systems say I can wear black & some don't. I think navy is like black. Most say I can't wear cool browns, just warm ones. I wish I could tell the difference when I drape all the coats in front of my face. I can't see any change.

What the heck?! I called them just minutes before that, and they refused to look. Same store, I never talked to Beverly Hills as they were closed. That just chafes me the wrong way. I sure hope my original SA would get the commission on an exchange...

But anyway, back to YOU, Elle! Sorry for the hijack. I couldn't help but do a split screen... Burberry on the left, BB on the right. I am impressed at how similar they look overall. In fact, I think I might possibly prefer the colors of both BB versions.... however in the light colors, the Burberry fabric seems like it might be draping a smidge better. Hmm... gotta let this sink in for a minute.

These pics & comments are to help those deciding whether to buy or not. I think Rae & Claire's coats are K2K. I haven't seen Sara's. Now that I see the quality of fabric & construction I stand by that. Any comments where I say Burberry is preferable is just my opinion & only because I think Suz asked. I need to make a big decision on whether to keep Burberry, BB, both of them in a different colour or both BB so I will post the pics in a new thread with pics of my Burberry. If I say the Burberry is better it is only because I bought a top of the line one already & it is hard to go back once you've had that beauty in your closet. If I tried BB first, I would have probably just got that.

So here are pics of the coats on me. Other things of note - the buttons don't go as low on the front. Does anyone know if that is a problem with wet & or windy weather? There is only one spare button in that size but if you could get one from BB you could take to a tailor to add another row of buttons to make it more like Burberry. I sat on a fluffy blanket that the cat sits on in the navy & it did get on the coat but not badly. I think that amount would happen to anything navy. I think it would come off easily.

pics 4 & 5 are with belt cinched at back.

Derwin was very helpful at the century city store. They have black and beige in a 2 reg. I ordered both a 2r and a 4p due to my short waist.

Yes...I have to find a store that has one, though...and it's all closed up here now. Tomorrow I fly to NYC. But I may have time tomorrow to locate one and have it sent. I will see! Thank you for all the advice!

Suz I think the colour is taupe enough for you & a size 2 would fit. Go ahead & order. You can always return.

Also I think the fabric is comparable to the Burberry London, without having one here to compare side by side. The buttons & belt buckles are also comparable. The construction, though good isn't as good as Burberry but probably good enough. The zip out wool liner is something Burberry don't have. The length is comparable. The collar stand is smaller, which isn't preferred but not too small & one could pop their collar to gain height for a long or cold neck.

Rae I'm not sure if there were more 2s in BH but there was one at Century City. I think there was only one though so call & get it held for you.
