I'm a fan of washing things myself. I always wash wool or cashmere sweaters and never have a problem so long as I use lukewarm water and wool wash and don't swish too much. I have even washed pure wool kilts by hand and lined wool coats that say dry clean only. The coats are a risk because the interlinings and shoulder pads are an unknown quantity, but I've never had any problems. I tend to steam iron them when damp. Like Suz, I find they smell so nice when they're freshly washed.

Thistle, it is a bathrobe. My parents used to call them dressing gowns. Think 40's elegant heavy satin wraps.

Glad you're wearing your cashmere and nicer things. Yes, accidents will happen, but you will wipe them away and go on.

I bet babies love cashmere. It's got to be so snuggly!

Thistle, if only I had known this when my daughter was young! She was the queen of spit-up--a happy spitter as they said. I walked around permanently with a burp cloth on my shoulder. I even found some cute, more fashionable ones. But then again I wasn't working at the time, so didn't have to deal with the issue of dressing up.

Shipskitty, so funny about the peanut butter handprint. Kind of cute and sweet! Sometimes I find there's a little gob of Nutella on my hair after I drop off my daughter at school.

LOL Thistle - love your work! Great save :)

When my DS was little I was petrified about him spitting up over my suits and dresses and used to wear my dressing gown on top until I got out the door (I'd stash it in the car boot LOL). Didn't save me one day though when he was about 1 1/2 because he managed to put a peanut butter handprint on the butt of my navy dress. I didn't catch a glimpse of it until lunchtime when I spotted it out of the corner of my eye as I turned in the bathroom at work... Still wondering how many workmates saw it and were too polite to mention it LOL

Yay!!

I find my cashmere washes really, really well. I sometimes have to block the sweaters a bit when they come out of the machine, but they clean up nicely and smell lovely afterwards.

DD2 has a bit of an issue with spitting up. She does it a lot, and the doctor said she is fine. Because of it, I usually put my clothes on right before I walk out the door for work and change as soon as I get home.

Well, accidents do happen, and sometimes changing right when I get home is hard. (Screaming three year old, crying baby, frazzled DH).

So, into the washer on the hand wash setting went the sweater. I then laid it on my sweater rack to dry. It's still plump and soft and totally stain free :) The sweater in question came from Ann Taylor, so it's at best a mid grade cashmere.
