Here is a picture of the kids with DH. You can see they don't get their height from me! DS1 doesn't look so tall at 6'3" next to his dad! His entire class is moving from 8th to 9th grade. It is rather silly that they have a ceremony for it (they never did when I was in school), as it isn't a significant achievement (everyone moves from 8th to 9th grade!). But since they move schools and will be attending the high school next year, they make a big deal out of it. DS2 is not skipping a grade, although he is on track to take AP level courses in high school.&nbsp;</p> <p>Schools in the US, generally speaking, are VERY hesitant to hold students back or to promote them ahead of their normal year in school. Studies when this was more commonly done in the past indicate that social development is as important as academic, and artificially promoting or holding back a student can cause bigger issues than previously thought. It is still sometimes done, but our school has not done this in years, regardless of test scores.&nbsp;</p> <p>Indeed, while I handle the test scores for our school, and my children are in the top few, they are not usually the highest scoring students. Sometimes they are, but not consistently. Even so, I will take it. I wanted a full length pic because I was wearing cropped pants, which I find incredibly hard to wear because I can never get the proportions right. But DH never understands the importance of getting shoes in the picture!</p> <p>And all of the kids are taller than I am. DD just surpassed me this year. I don't know how much longer she will grow, but DH grew 3 more inches after he graduated from high school, so the boys may have a long way to go! They have a ceremony similar to a graduation and a dance following. DS2 also won a medal for academic performance. On top of all that, he is a stylish dresser! We went to look for a suit for him to wear (difficult to find, as he is just over 6' tall and won't stop growing anytime soon!), but he preferred separates. He chose khaki pants, a navy blazer (in a tall size), yellow dress shirt and purple tie. He also wore purple argyle socks to complete the look.&nbsp;</p> <p>No real purpose for this post - just a proud mum looking for an excuse to post pics of her son! The second picture is me with my three children. The eldest will be a junior in high school next year, DS2 will be a freshman and DD will be in 7th grade. She maintained all A's in 6th grade, so she's off to a great start.</p>
