I used to get this sort of inspiration from the street, the people around me, and fashion magazines. But in the last few years, I've found myself drawn to the styling in... catalogs! In particular Boden and Garnet Hill always catch my fancy, and even if I end up not buying anything from them or replicating an outfit exactly, I do adopt bits and pieces--or, as you say, certain colors or proportions.
I don't know why streetwear doesn't inspire as much as it used to. Maybe because I'm not a big fan of the skinny bottom/fluid top look so in vogue now.

I get my ideas and inspiration EVERYWHERE. I am aware of fashion in every facet of my life.

I watch the women (and men) walk by my office window and make notes of what works and what doesn't work for office settings. I study the tweens and teens at the mall to see what trends may be coming my way. I read fashion magazines while on the elliptical trainer (then I look around me to see what the women in the gym are wearing). I cut out pictures from the fashion magazines and try to make mood boards. I read fashion blogs and pin ideas that strike me as amazing or inspirational. Sometimes I am drawn by the color combination, sometimes I am intrigued with the style proportions.

Sometimes I try to step back from fashion and focus on other things like hiking or travel, but even these open up opportunities for me to study the fashion I encounter in those settings. My BF says that I think about fashion to much, but I maintain that everyone does similar things .... but maybe I am more conscious of it than others are.

I like the socks and boot clogs. I think that *makes it.* I'm often inspired by people I think are interesting or, more accurately, I identify with over some tenuous thing. Like dogs on the sofa and no hand washing in the kitchen sink.

This style is too young and romantic for my type, but I am attracted to the styling, colors and proportions. I enjoy getting inspiration from all places and people, even when it's not right for "me." For instance this outfit pictured might encourage me to push the envelope into a different profile for spring.

How about you? Where do you find your inspiration?
