I thought I would do a follow-up post in case anyone else is looking for swimwear for a vacation.

I got the miraclesuit Utopia in black/cobalt blue in a 12 as per Angie's suggestion. I do think I could have worn a petite version as I really have to tighten the neck to pull the "bra" up to where it needs to be. Thanks to Suz's post on proportion, I now know this is because I am way shorter from the bust to waist than the standard. I think it works fairly well and the straps stay flat even tightened that much.

I also ordered a tankini from Lands End. It is ruched with a little ruffle at the bottom. I find it is quite a bit too long on me and because I have belly action both above and below my waist, I find the ruching actually emphasizes the tummy rather than hiding it because the ruching seems to settle in at the waist. I may shorten it to see if it helps.

I started packing yesterday and we leave Saturday for three weeks. woo hoo

Definitely throw your bikini and a pareo in your suitcase even if you get a Miracle suit. It won't take up any room, and after you have a Margarita or two you might not care about any perceived thickness! I'm sure you'll be the best looking gringa on the beach either way and besides, what happens on vacation stays on vacation!

Thanks everyone. I was looking at the miraclesuits online and found three different size charts.

Angie, thanks for the information on sizing. According to the charts, I would have ordered a 10 (I usually wear an 8 but sometimes even a 6) but according to your client needs, I would need a 12 or even bigger. I am tempted to order a 12 but in a tie-neck so I can shorten it as needed.

It is interesting how we misinterpret our bodies. I can remember trying on tall swimsuits thinking they weren't long enough for me when the problem was they were too long.

I have a very short torso and am almost all legs at 5'8" and still sometimes need a tall, so I can't imagine having the opposite problem unless I was 5'3" or shorter.

D- I really hate Miraclesuits. I find all that squeezing to be uncomfortable, and they are hot because the fabric is thick...... You may find that they work for you, but I would defnitely throw a bikini or two in your suitcase. They don't take up much room, and they feel good on the beach! You can wrap with a pareo with your bikini too....

Miracle suits run small and short. My petite size 4 clients wear a size 8/10 miracle suit - remember that you size up about two sizes or more with bathing costumes. I don't think that you will need a petite.

Bikinis are good!

dianthus- Lands End has petite swimwear. They have some on clearance for really good prices, but they also have brand new ones out for the resortwear season. They do have some similar to the miraclesuit types, so give the website a check. I just ordered some new lap swimming suits from them- they should be here Monday and I am really excited to give them a try.

I've tried tankinis and have never found one that looks good. I may have to go with the bikini and my thickness showing.

Are there any tankini options? That would solve the long rise issue.

I am leaving for Mexico in two weeks and since I've added a few pounds was thinking about swimsuits. I would order a miraclesuit partly for the slimming and partly because it would work well for walking on the beach with a pareo. I measured my torso and it is about 60" going from top of one shoulder, between legs and back to shoulder.

For my hip and waist measurement, I am a size 8. My chest measurement is a 6 and my torso length puts me at a 2 or 4 (the smallest on the chart is 6). I really wanted the retro style ruched one-piece a few years ago but to get one that fit my hips, they were too big in the chest and 3-4" too long in the torso.

I really like these ones but am not sure if any would work.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/mi.....ce/3018012
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/mi.....tback=1938

These both have tie necks and no underwire which might work for me. I wonder why they make them for tall but not petite. I suspect I need a petite in a bigger size to keep the length right. I also wonder why they make them for a longer torso as the size changes. This doesn't make sense to me.

Any suggestions?
