Hi Flyboii!

Firstly, isn't Macy's meant to be a fairly upper-class store? (I'm in Aus, so we don't have Macy's here) If so, I'd be definately dressing up rather than down.

In terms of the colours, what looks best is difficult. My instinct is that given you have a very limited wardrobe and it is possible the beige is more of a casual look, I'd probably be more inclined to go with the black. (From reading on here, I've also learnt that beige trousers can be more difficult to carry off well and still look fab. Of course it can be done, it just seems more tricky!)

Given you haven't got any fancy shoes, I'd still be willing to guess you have black shoes. Give them a polish so that they look super shiny/good condition and wear these with the black pants.

Check the length of your trousers - if your trousers are dragging on the ground it isn't a great look. If your ankles are giving you a sense of airconditioning, that can look a tad dodgy too, depending on the gap between top of shoe and bottom of trouser.

Here's an article that should give you a few extra pointers to help lift the outfit:
http://youlookfab.com/2010/08/.....teresting/

I'm inclined to think that regardless of what you decide to wear, it goes without saying that you need to take extra care with your grooming - hair / neat and tidy appearance(ie shave your face and clip your nails etc) is really important here.

If you are game, I do have to say that the easiest way for the forum to help you would be to post some pictures of some different combos and then we can help you pull the outfit together from there!

Good luck anyway!

Hopefully Angie will chime in soon, but I think it's better to over formal than too casual. Smart ish lace up shoes sound great. Would you be up to posting a photo of the outfit you are thinking about wearing? It's sometimes easier to offer advice with a visual x

I just wanted to avoid being too dressy. I'll borrow some black trousers from a suit, the jacket would be a little much.

Well I don't want to be too dressy. But I suppose from a suit would be fine. And get a pair of lace up shoes?

Just thought of something else have you ppopped in Macy's and had a look at what the staff wear? Not much help if they wear a uniform But I know House of Fraser here in th UK the staff just wear black clothes and shift dresses, smart trousers and white shirts reign supreme x

Umm I'm not sure Khakis would be a great choice? Too casual? If it was me I'd wear a smart pair of black trousers or skirt, shirt and jacket. Shoes anything as long as it's not trainers or anything too casual or dressy, smart flats would work x

Ive been reading that khakis are a good choice, but what shoes?
