I reckon here you can usually get a bit of 20s fairly easily. It may be because we have a famous weekend festival called Art Deco weekend once a year, but when Gatsby came out as a movie a few years back I agree with Sal that there was more than usual.
My evening 20s outfit is put together by me from a long 20s style beaded straight top over a shorter straight pleated skirt- looks like a dress, but I can also wear the top with black evening pants.
To Shevia’s point- won’t you know the answer when the wide leg pants start appearing second-hand? ( I don’t mean the actual 70s ones).

I love 20s silhouettes also. I haven't actually shopped retail in some time, so your question has actually completely distracted me - how long is the lapse between retail and second hand?

I actually have a drop waist dress from Comrags' 2017 collection. Not traditional, because it also has a handkerchief hem. But it's the coolest dress I own.

My mother had a box of beautiful clothing from the preWWII 40’s ( before polyester) . Several styles made The Cat’s list...bias cut dresses and skirts, large yoked or collared blouses and soft knit tops, sometimes with bat-wing sleeves, beautiful fabrics, tailoring and details on even lounge clothes.

Torontogirl, I too love waist definition without excess volume in the skirt. Take a look at Eshakti or Modcloth.

Rachy, that’s a great idea.

Interesting topic. I would like to see more '30s fashion styles, like:
● Midi and long length bias cut dresses
● Dresses and blouses with large yokes or collars
● Elegant wide leg pants
● Feminine knitted tops
● Slouch hats and knit berets
● Oxford shoes with perforated details
● T-strap heels
● Lots of white
● Soft velvet
● Polkadots and paisley

I agree Carla - there is not much 50s except for real retro/ rockabilly - eg full circle skirts, fitted blouses. What they wore on Happy Days!!

1920s comes and goes a bit- there was a bit when The Great Gatsby was rereleased 5 or so years ago.

Haha - and bustles - been a while since they were mainstream.

Hmm, interesting ... one thing I've been keeping an eye out for is waist-definers, as I did some exploring which indicated that my body type would look better with waist definition (notwithstanding my lack of waist!) ... it's proving hard to come by! Not sure if that counts as a profile, or perhaps ties into your 50s reference. Generally speaking, 'romantic' pieces are also not readily available, I'd say ...

Great thoughts! It is interesting that some silhouettes haven't come back strong. I really feel like the Dior New Look is coming back at a fringe level. I put this outfit together to see the exhibit. It was fun! The skirt is from White House Black Market. Hopefully they'll bring the style back for the holidays. (You could probably find the style online, too.)

It could be really fun to try to recreate a '20's look! Maybe a long, straight dress with an even longer skirt underneath it?

I've seen some minis lately, but I think they're mostly expensive party dresses.

Angie’s Friday post got me thinking about unusual profiles that aren’t represented much at retail. My favourite fashion era is the late 1920’s-early 1930’s when dropped waist dresses or long tops over skirts was in vogue. This is not a profile much represented in fashion at the moment. I still have images from Comrags and L’Wren Scott from 5 or 6 years ago when they did a season of dropped waist looks.

There are other profiles (50’s ‘New Look’ with the nipped waist and full skirt and early 1960’s mod clean lines, short hems) that seem minimally available unless as actual vintage in thrift and consignment shops.

Is there a profile that you wish was more represented at retail? It might be from a distinct era, or it might actually be from a culture (I’m thinking shalwar kameez (tunic over pants) or Cheongsam (high neck sheath). Would you wear it if it spoke to your heart, but wasn’t trending?
