I recently got headshots done for a promo at my work - they recommended matte makeup, and something without sunscreen it it (reflects ghastly white, apparently) - and just do your makeup as usual. They recommended we keep accessories down to a minimum and nothing too blingy

I generally have makeup a little more than normal, nothing too glossy or overdone. For myself, a simple neckline in either a darker or bluish- tone to bring out eye detail and have contrast. There is a lot of info online, here are a couple that you might find helpful. many of them say similar things.

one little tip to remember, when you smile if you move your tongue to the roof of your mouth, it will pull up the skin under your chin! instant lift!...if only i could do it all the time in real life.....

Good memory, Ceit! Yes, I did them last summer and had to do retakes because the first set were hid-e-ous. For the first set I wore a navy pinstriped suit, which I thought looked good on me. Maybe it was the lighting - the photographer took the photos in our conference room in the afternoon with us facing the windows in the bright sunlight. My second session I wore a coral jacket and darker lipstick and went to the photo studio, where obviously the lighting and setup were optimal. My thought is this is partially in your control (what you wear, how you do your hair and makeup) and partially out of your control (lighting, photographer posing you and instructing you on head position, etc). And yes, there are some helpful articles out there. Good luck!

Thank you everyone! and for thinking about importance of time to do this well... might check the net for others professional shots to get ideas of the look. and think I paid for a blowdry for another shot one time. Hope I get time to do a practice wiw on ylf... this is more serious than I realised so glad I thought ahead... I walked into a session of high powered men a year back and the ad had me w brown hair which was problematic.

It wasn't MaryK I don't think, there was someone else who had them done. Natalie (goldenpig) had shots done a while back too I think.

I have just tried to find Maryk's thread but no luck. Is it a head shot only? I had one done last year and I wish I had put more thought into it. I am thinking a blazer, good makeup, you could add some colour with a scarf or top under the blazer (or not) and a smile:). You could opt for a statement necklace or a nice pair of earrings.

There was MaryK's thread a while back if I recall correctly... perhaps you can search the archives or she can do it? I have tried, but can't narrow the search down enough.

I will be getting professional work photo done next week. For some reason the photo session are always on the day when I am looking a fright. My work is now using photos on everything so I keep popping up in a pink floral number and no lippy - not the professional but approachable look I am after! I haven't found anything on YLF archives on guides for these work shots except Angie's comment week or so ago about heavier makeup. I guess I need a jacket collar; I tend to wear black so should go with that etc. Any advice most welcome!
