Interesting comments, all of you. For those of us living in North America, Primark can be a bit of an unknown quantity and I like reading what all of you had to say (write) about it.

The US market is very different from Europe so I have my doubts about whether or not it can succeed on this side of The Pond. However, apparently Boston is considered the most European of American cities which is why Primark decided to try their first US store there...

I read that the average item of Primark clothing is worn ONCE; I wonder if it's true of H&M, Joe Fresh, etc. clothes, too. Is disposable fashion, itself, a trend? Will young people ever start to yearn for more permanent, high-quality garments?

Well, not for me, but I saw hordes of young girls with Primark shopping bags in London and Oxford a few years ago so the store does appeal to a certain demographic. If the location is right for that group, I suspect they might be contender even in an over-saturated sector. Despite what some of us think about it, inexpensive, trend-driven disposable fashion doesn't seem to have lost its appeal for young women who want to wear something once or twice then move on to something new.

Very very poor quality. All the sweater were sooo itchy. Irregular sizing, horrid workmanship. Truly beyond disposable.

Apparently I am not a fan.

Color me grumpy, it sounds like yet another fast fashion quantity over quality shop. See laments about over-consumption in the Black Friday thread.

I think huge YAH! It's an easy way to try new trends and while I agree with Rute that overall the quality is not very good, there are some surprises there that are great buys. I had hose/tights from them that lasted better than many others I owned abd a cloth duffle bag has made it through multiple trips, washes and throwing about , still getting compliments on it when I travel. But like many less expensive fast fashion stores, lots of polyester and questionable finishing on garments.

We have Primark here in Portugal, I buy there pijamas and t-shirts to wear to my yoga class, but I find the quality of the clothes very poor

I just learned (probably ages after all of you...) that the first Primark will be opening on this side of the Atlantic: in Boston, where Filene's Basement used to be.

What do you guys think? Will this retailer be able to break into the US market? It's having remarkable success in Europe but sometimes things don't "translate" so well on different continents. Curious about your opinions.

Let's do a poll, shall we? Will Primark successfully crack the North American Market (or be sent home to Ireland/ UK/ Europe with its figurative tail btwn its legs)? Yay or nay?
