Joy, that last sentence makes so much sense, but I never thought of it before, never figured out why people read me as "feminine" bitd when I had a classic hourglass figure (hips same size as bust, waist 10" smaller).

As far as chinos vs utility pants...to me chinos are more dressed up than casual chinos so do not have the tough/pretty or casual/ dressy tension in outfits. Both could have the masculine/girly thing going on. The success of that could be somewhat determined by body type. A curvy girl is going to look more girly than a curve-less rectangle no matter what she wears.

Rachylou, I only have the blue top, the pants and the shorts (not the white top). I don't have a picture of the pants without that shirt. I plan to wear the pants with the blue. So far I've only worn the shorts with that really basic top, but this has given me a nudge to go look for a blousier top for them. I'm not sure the colors will work to wear the blue & shorts together. This color is off; they are actually more green than the picture (even though it is labeled "olive")

I think the navy top and shorts will be good. The other top, I'm wondering if the top will swallow the shorts....

I like this combo. To me it looks a lot like the chinos post from a few weeks ago, but with pockets. What am I missing?

I bought these shorts a couple months ago, haven't been able to figure out what to wear them with except a basic cream colored linen top. It's a really nice tank, with just the right amount of draping at the neck. It looked perfectly nice, but had no excitement. It's like they were both staples, waiting for something else with a little more vavavoom to come take center stage.

When I saw the post on chinos of many colors, I gave myself a little pat on the back, because I had recently paired these pants and this top. I haven't had the chance to wear that combo yet, but think I'll like it. It hits all the marks I came up with earlier today as people were helping me define my style--one part more fitted (but not constraining), one part voluminous (not so much, but the flowers make it look big),strong colors, and something (the cut of the pants) that makes it look more tough than fragile.

Am I onto something here, or am I mixing up too many different things?
