Thanks Andrea! I'm glad you found a coat for yourself. And one that works with your style even! We do have TK Maxx here, but the only time I was there I wasn't very impressed with the stock. I might give it another try...

Thanks Marin! A quick search told me that the brand doesn't seem to be available here. But you're right about length - I don't think I'm going to take rain pants with me (trekking pants and jeans have to suffice), so that's definitely important. I think I might try some of the outdoor retailers after all before I order online again. Maybe I find a brand that works better so that I can go for a more informed hunt online afterwards.

Have you tried anything from Isis - it is a gear company just for women. I find that their cuts tend to be a bit more curvy. I don't believe they have petites. I have a Isis puffer and hiking pants and quality seems really good.

Also, a lot of gear jackets end short on the hip which is fine in heavy rain if you have rain pants on. I actually like my rain coats to end at the bottom of my hip if I am not weary rain pants. If that makes sense.

Hi Astrid, I just bought a gorgeous raincoat from TK Maxx for £39.99 (about 2 weeks ago). I can't find it online but you could look in store and they are available at a higher price on Ebay - link as below:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SOS-.....-/19110926

It is by SOS Jensen (in a photographic rose print). I am a pear shape and only 5ft 5 and I fell in love with it for my holiday later this year in Blackpool - it pays to be prepared. The hood is removable, the construction feels very good quality. The fastening on the front is a strong zip and velcro. Apparently it is waterproof to 3000mm - which I should think would be handy for Scotland!

Hope the info is of some assistance and good luck in your quest.

Thanks Dee! This looks great and I'd love something similar for rainy Berlin autumn weather, but you're right that I'm searching for something that is more gear. I'm actually not very particular about the style, as long as the fit is right, it works to keep me dry and the color doesn't look too bad on me.

I have the Midtown Trench from Athleta and I love it. Waterproof, seam-sealed, and lined. It had straps at the waist to tighten it there and give it a bit more shape.

http://athleta.gap.com/browse/.....=929642022

Sounds like you might be wanting something sportier though?

Thanks Angie. I haven't so far, because most rain coats I've seen are more geared towards "city rain" and I fear they wouldn't hold up if I really wore them out and about. In the worst case I could be walking in wind and rain for a few hours straight.

Thanks Liz. I haven't tried them for the reasons I mentioned above. They do have petite sizing which is great, but I don't think they're functional enough for what I want.

Thanks JAileen. I've tried one North Face Gore Tex jacket but it was cut much too straight. I could see if I can try different models in a TNF store to see if one works out, but I think TNF is generally cut fairly straight. The jacket will be the only jacket I'm taking (besides a fleece jacket), so it doesn't have to pack that small. Of course it shouldn't take too much room because I have to carry it when the weather is good, but it won't take up luggage space because I'll be wearing it on the flight.

I have two waterproof jackets. One is a North Face goretex that I've had for more than ten years. It's huge and I can wear big fleece or down jackets under it. It's definitely waterproof. It has a lot of features such as pit zips. It's great quality, but because of the lining, zippers, etc., it doesn't pack as small. It was more than $300 back then. I got it for skiing. I didn't see one like it on their website, though.

My other one is Patagonia. I got it at a thrift store for $3. It's not goretex, but it is waterproof. It's like this one.

http://www.patagonia.com/us/pr.....?p=83806-0

It's not as good quality, but it's also a lot cheaper, and packs up really small. I took it when we went to Alaska, due to its packability.

The two other jackets I ordered came today and both didn't work out. That makes six jackets ordered so far that didn't fit me, even though I double checked sizing charts, read reviews and everything. That I'm more or less petite doesn't help. You would think a woman who's active can't have hips. I really don't want my jacket to fit two sizes too big on top to fit my hips.

If you're a pretty pear - do you have any recommendations? I'm searching for something that can stand up to Scottish rain. I know my best bet would probably be to go to the store and try them in person, but I know that I'd spend too much money that way. So far I've always ordered online because there's some significantly marked down stuff out there.
