Not yet. I will wait a couple of weeks, till mid February. Then I will start looking for items I need for my spring wardrobe. I always keep notes of what I know I'll need for the next seasons. This upcoming spring I will look for:
● Blouse or buttonfront shirt in a spring colour
● Warm hosiery (50 denier) in my light neutrals (white, light grey, medium grey)
● Spring coat (has to cover the knees)

Some of my wardrobe items are usable in spring as well as in winter. But my typical spring items are stored in the attic, and I look forward to get them down around mid March. I know they will be ready to wear, as the last thing I did before storing my S/S wardrobe in the attic some months ago was to ensure that all items were clean and in good condition.

I'm back, because I've done some thinking and ordered a few things. It's 78ºF at our apartment in SoCal today. It's not always like that this time of year, but it's a good reminder that my summer wardrobe needs to be much more robust than it currently is. I'm not buying any more cold-weather clothes this year. Everything new has to work for temps between 50 and 100º.

Tentative list:
* swimsuit, two if our new house has a pool
* shoes - one or two more pairs of sandals (I only have one now) and an easy slip-on like mules or clogs
* the elusive perfect summer dress
* tops - a light-colored silk tank and a printed silk blouse, maybe another linen top, as well
* bottoms - jeans replacement, another pair of lightweight, wideleg crops, and some comfortable linen full-length pants

*sunglasses - I need prescription ones.

That seems like a lot for one season, but it's going to be a LONG one, and a fundamental shift in how my wardrobe is seasonally weighted. Two items (my first two purchases of 2019) are on the way.

Well yes and no. I’ve just ordered the winter coat Lisap posted about and a sweater too. So that puts me firmly still in winter-land. But I am thinking about what I’d like to add to my summer wardrobe (spring is sadly fleeting in my neck of the woods) - new Birkenstocks, some floaty tops, a T-shirt refresh ...

I like the idea of getting current spring/summer wardrobe items in order - but I have a couple of months to do it as the earliest I’d be able to wear non-winter items is the odd day in April. Last year I made sure to have footwear at the ready since our spring is so fleeting - got to wear fun booties and shoes when I can before it’s sandals everyday!

Hi Isabel! Spring Is the most difficult season, fashion-wise, for me, so It might help me to start planning well in advance. Unfortunately there is no spring fashion in the stores yet.
I have bought a very nice cream suit last summer that I am sure I will use a lot this spring.
Last year I was looking for a floral midi skirt, which is the quintessential spring item for me, but wasn't lucky enough. I'll try again this year.
And I need one or two pairs of shoes: flat brogues for sure, and maybe a neutral heel? I'll surely come here for opinions before buying...

I’ve been buying sandals and flats. I have three pairs I’m keeping, and yesterday I returned five pairs. I bought two pairs of these Naot sandals, in navy and grey. They are comfy and a little nicer looking than Birkenstocks. I also bought a pair of FitFlop sandals in off white. That’s all for now.

Fall/winter is my shopping highlight in the year, spring/summer clothing is a big yawn for me. The one item I knew I wanted is already hanging in my closet, a repeat of a maxi sundress I got a ton of use out of last year, in a different pattern. Anything else is a maybe. Maybe some white wide-leg crops. Maybe a leather tote in a bone color.

I purchased the Free People dress that Angie has for spring/summer. On order I have a pair of low heeled sandals . Possibly will need to refresh my white jeans. Will be culling some T shirts shortly as I find most of them unflattering . Spring footwear is a big challenge for me and I would like to find a new pair of lighter shooties or booties. Also on the look out for a new pocketbook, my go to store Henri Bendel is out of business which is a shame as the jetsetter backpack works well for me and they had lots of colors.

I can’t think much about summer at this point of the year! It’s just too far out. But I will be packing this weekend for a little warm-weather getaway, which will be welcomed. I already have a good idea of what I will take (swimsuits, casual dresses, some shorts and a couple of tees, and some workout gear).

I am not very good at shopping ahead of a season — I tend to buy things that end up not being practical for our climate and my casual life. I’m focused more this year on using what I have in a current way and updating thoughtfully, which will probably mean waiting until the season is upon me so I can tell what is and what is not working. I suspect I need some new shorts, and that is a big shopping challenge for me.

It’s good to see you, Isabel! I like your sensible approach to planning.

It's been so long since I had a "regular" summer that I wonder how my wardrobe will do. I'm not making any plans, other than to stay alert during the whole ride. The kind of change you are making, taking some pants to be altered, is much more in line with what I'm likely to do than buying new items for this year's season.

Cobbler trip for sure. Deliberate swimsuit shopping, a first for me. White shorts. Maybe a summer floaty dress and white jeans. That’s it for my planned shopping.

I’m looking for some linen or silk light sweaters and white jeans, also white summer shoes. This year I’m going to try something different - I want to alternate months for clothes shopping with “general maintenance “ months. I bought 6 pieces of clothing and shoes in January. I will take 2 or 3 tops to my tailor at Nordstrom in February. And will only allow myself to buy underpinnings. And so on. Don’t know how I’ll do.
I don’t buy clothes that doesn’t fit me but often need to get things shortened or taking in a bit. I don’t want a huge alteration bill at once, want to be better organized and not rush.

Isabel, you sound so organized. I moved to a place with less summer than I am used to, so have too much. I did get yellow flat loafers so I hope to add summer bags..a yellow and a great straw that I never found last year. I also wear jeans all year and want to replace low waists with high waists or just wear skirts and dresses. For spring I would like to add a new color or neutral in a few pieces. I would like coral or aqua most but will see what is available.

Oh how I long for spring! It's been so cold and snowy around here. I'm planning on making a few skirts, a dress and a pair of pants, and purchasing a pair of jeans. I'd like to get a new pair of shoes like my old Franco Sarto Holts from a few year back, but I haven't had good luck finding a replacement so far.

If I sub in autumn/ winter I have thought about the following:

- what essentials I need to replace (three or four items - work pants, puffer, beanie, running shoes)
- what I might sell ( one expensive knit, one jacket)
- new things I have added out of season ( two thrifted items - bomber and cardigan)
- what else I might want (flat boots, knitwear, hoodie)

I don’t plan too many winter additions. I am trying to thrift more and buy higher end for other items.

La Pedestrienne, I LOVE Uniqlo. And you are SO right that they sell out really quickly. Their t shirts are my favorites and they play a major role in my Fall/Winter core capsule. I haven't been able to get my hands on their linen pants yet. Though I bought some last year at Macy's so I think that I am all set with that.

Carla, yes ! Another Uniqlo fan here. I gave away my two linen dresses at the end of last summer. I will watch for Uniqlo's !

Gretchen, I tend to go more colorful in the Summer too. I do the same with my toe nails !

I'm definitely "feeling" spring - ready to pull out the brighter colors and put away the heavier weight things, even though we've got a way to go. I want to do a closer look at my sweater collection as I changeover closets in March. I'm already down 3 sweaters due to moths, but I also haven't worn them as much as I have in the past. It may be time for a bigger purge there.

Warm weather planning is well underway over here! It helps keep me sane this time of year when the weather starts to wear me down. I feel pretty solid with my core wardrobe, so my main additions this year will be basics, footwear and outerwear.

For spring (short list because it’s a short season):

Canvas sneakers (replacements)

Maybe a waxed cotton raincoat (upgraded alternative to my Gore-Tex jackets)

Maybe a fun chunky cardigan (something that could double as outerwear and indoor topper)

For summer:

One or two pairs of flat sandals (replacements)

Uniqlo linen pants and shorts (duplicates, because the ones I have get worn a lot)

Uniqlo U crewneck tees (I have a navy one; would like black and white)

Maybe a swimsuit (another dupe -- I have my eye on an updated version of one of my current suits, just because I love the print)

I would not say no to a pretty dress or jumpsuit if I find just the right one

That’s about it! I’ll probably place my Uniqlo order soon so the size/colours I want don’t go out of stock. Having a finely-honed list to stick to helps me not feel guilty about adding a wildcard or two later in the season (although TBH I do very little shopping once summer rolls around).

I'm researching what is coming into stores and trends in preparation for S/S. I'm interested in the IDLF Uniqlo Colab for S/S 2019 that is due to drop the end of February for cotton/linen sundresses. I need a shorts refresh and a nice pair of sandals. From last year I still have 2 pair white jeans, some lace tank tops, white loafers, and silver sandals that I will be happy to wear.

Oh , I remember ! I just drove by that restaurant the other day and it brought back memories of such a wonderful time with so many wonderful women ( and Greg ). And I think of Rosie and Jasmine, too..

Regarding shopping, I feel I have too many clothes for Summer so I am not planning shopping as much as tailoring what I have that I love. I feel as if it is such a short season here and I have clothes to carry me for MONTHS ! Wishful thinking , maybe ? LOL

Missed you so much, sweet Isabel. (((HUGS))). See pics for very fond Boston memories five years ago.

I begin shopping for Summer in Jan, and for Winter in July! I shop early in the season, find my size, relax into it all, and then wear the heck out of my stuff. The strategy works well for me.

I have already bought a dress and flats for Summer this year - see Finds, and this thread:
