Hi Ellen...I'm an inverted triangle too. A good rule of thumb, if you wear a larger size on top than you do on the bottom, then you are an inverted triangle.

I would never have said apple based on your photo.

I'm sorry but I'm not going to be much help in the jeans department. I am just now getting my brain around spending more than $60-70 for a pair of jeans. Right now, my favorite jeans are Calvins that I got at Macy's on the sale rack. My old favorite jeans are Tahari, but they don't fit anymore.

Thanks Maya and Lissy. I've always wondered which I was (inverted triangle or apple), mainly because I am broader in shoulders and have small hips but also have a small bust and tend to gain ALL my weight right in my middle, which is more appley. I forgot about the short-waisted part, Lissy, but that is so true about me. I'm tall, so shirts are still too short often, but I am proportionately short-waisted and have never once worried about gaining weight in thighs, etc.

Thanks SO much for the jeans suggestions. I'm not going to have hours and hours in the stores in New York, so I wanted to go in with some ideas! This is great.

I have to agree with Maya. I was very surprised when I saw your picture after reading your post. You look very well proportioned from what I can see.

I am an inverted triangle (broad shoulders, large bust, short-waisted, very thin limbs, slim hips, flat butt) and I, too, am a daily jean wearer. I am a devoted True Religion fan. The cut of their jeans is almost always perfect for me. I recommend their Johnny straight leg cut. Hudson is also a great premium denim line. Both True Religion and Hudson tend to have flap pockets which help add a little to my flat butt. William Rast is also a great line, as their jeans tend to have a low rise in the back area, so it doesn't look all saggy back there. Assuming you conclude you are an inverted triangle, I would look for a jean with high back pockets, a uniform dark wash, in either a straight leg/bootcut, or a trouser leg to help balance out your top and bottom half.

I don't even think you look close to an apple. I was expecting you to look much different based on your description. It's hard for me to tell exactly what you are based on that picture since, as you said, it's not straight on and the top isn't all that fitted, but I don't think you're an apple at all.

This is what I think of when I think of apple:

http://www.myshape.com/content/shape_e

I don't think you look anything like that. I think, based on the little information I have, that you sound like an inverted triangle:

http://www.myshape.com/content/shape_y

Bear in mind that the example there is a very, very tall and very, very slim woman. But we're talking shape and not size. The description is someone with a broad shoulder line, less defined waistline, and slim hips, which sounds a lot like what you describe.

I do not have suggestions for jeans since I am not very familiar with that body type, but Nicole is our resident inverted triangle and she might be able to give you some help.

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted much before, but I've been reading this all for months and I'm impressed with your opinions! So I need some tips.

I'm a 5'10 appley-inverted triangle, average weight. My problem right now is overcoming baby belly (my baby's 7 months). I always have trouble with jeans being too loose in the hips and too tight in the waist, giving me major muffin top, so I generally wear low-rise. Doesn't hold everything in, but gives a smoother line.

Anyway... I'm headed to NYC early this fall (I'm from Canada) and would like to try out some premium jeans while I'm there. A lot of the stores here don't have them and I can't order a lot online because of shipping to Canada.

So - does anyone have brands/cuts to recommend? By that time I hope to have lost the remaining 5-10lbs and I'd be willing to invest in an amazing pair of jeans if they really were amazing. I wear jeans almost every day and prefer dark washes so I can blend them with blazers, etc, if I need to kick it up a notch.

Thanks!

P.S. Here's a shot of me so you have an idea of shape... it's not head-on so it might be hard to tell. I'll try to get something clearer soon. http://s480.photobucket.com/al.....t=ylf1.jpg
