I adore premium denim and recently picked up two pairs, both skinny fits, one from NAS (this post the Paige) and one non-NAS (this post the Joe's). I am picky about pocket placement and prefer when the pocket is squarely on my rump, and not below it. I am a pretty pear shape and Joe's has always fit me well for premium denim. Paige is a new to me brand. Also AG has fit me well in the past but the rise is lower than I prefer now-a-days. It took me many trials of trying jeans before I found the brands and cuts that work for me. I'd keep searching!

CocoLion, I'm so glad you say my cry for help :) thanks for all your expertise! You truly know the premium brands and choose the perfect fits for your fab figure. If I keep the TRs I'll definitely have them shortened for just a bit of stacking. I'm going to keep my search. I didn't think of looking for BDGs – I have a pair of cobalt skinnies and you are so right, they loosen after wearing. I will look for a dark wash at UO and I'll have to practice PPP.

I think you look great in the TRs, but you're the one that needs to love them. Great info from CocoLion. Just wanted to add that Anthropologie is a good place to shop for denim. They usually have the more known premium brands, as well as some very good in house brands. Their Pilcro line is my favorite. Good luck!

You have a great back view so all jeans look great on you from the back. The low sitting pockets on the Trues is simply a style unique to that brand. I love the way these look on you except they look a bit long. I would roll or shorten them but you must take that with a grain of salt as I am not big on stacking at the bottom. (Even though stack usually happens even when I don't want it to, because my jeans loosen up and fall down as the day wears on.)

As for the 7s, they look great from the back but the front there is some extra fabric so I would pass due to the front fit looking a bit off. If you want jeans with a bit more "something" then try Trues or Miss Me jeans.

I love Levi's. I think yours fit really well. I have been extremely pleased with the fit of all of my Levis, I own mostly premium denim but also Levi's and BDG and Kuts in the non-premium arena. I think these non-premiums have great fit and value, in particular Levi's and Kuts. The BDGs tend to stretch a lot but I still love them. You can get the most fashion-forward denim cuts from BDG (Urban Outfitters) at a low price.

In terms of fit, I have been buying premium denim for a long time and I think you have to be open to all brands. I have an hourglass shape and typically wear size 27 and have had excellent jeans from all of these brands: Rag & Bone, Mother, True Religion, Paige, Hudson, J Brand and Citizens of Humanity. I used to buy a lot of 7s but that is the one brand that often feels cut for a straighter figure. I believe Paige and J Brand are known for fitting various body shapes really well. However Paige and J Brand are also known for plain, blank pockets so if you're looking for something special, be aware of that fact.

Thanks, MsMaven, your comments are really helpful. I feel that if I'm to pay more for premium denim, I need to be as-happy-as or more-than with the feel, fit and look compared to my current ones (I have several other non-premium pairs that I like). And yes, I'm getting the feeling that this is going to be a long journey... :) I'll report on the other two pairs when they arrive.

My experience has been that it takes a long time to find the right fit in premium jeans. Once I found Paige--my search was over.

I think both of your older jeans look better than the new ones--not quite the point. I never found a pair of TR that fit my body. I'll be interested in your report on the Jimmy--I thought about ordering them but hesitated and haven't yet.

I found the lower pockets took some getting used to, and there are still some styles I don't feel right in. Not sure what the answer is. I don't think your butt looks too long in the TRs, but again, it is a bit different look than the others.

Keep trying. I love the Paige. I was looking at some vacation photos from 2-3 years ago and saw my Paige boot cuts and thought--those look so good even after traveling around for a couple of weeks. I still have them--my first Paige jeans.

After seeing how fab Firecracker looks in all her premium jeans, I thought I’d like to try some since I do not own any premium denim, and replace some of my oldies. I brought home two (from The Rack). I’m looking for a flattering, curvy look on the rear view and I like my jeans snug. Ideally I would end up with three pair – skinny, straight and boot cut. I would like one of them to have flap pockets, and the others to have some stitching on the pockets (not plain).

I took the photos with a tucked-in Tee so the details can be seen. I wouldn’t be tucking my tops.

1) True Religion Skinny with Flaps Basic, size 26. I love the front, my issue is I think the pockets are way too low. They extend about 2” below my butt crease and I “feel” them when I walk. I think they’re making my butt look too long. 2) Old TT Blues bootcuts with the flap pockets I’m used to as far as size and position. Questions: Is it that my eye is just not adjusted to this low pocket placement? Is this the current standard? Do the old ones look really dated with the smaller pockets and light yellow embroidery? (these are my errand-runnig jeans)

3) 7 for All Mankind Gwenevere, size 27. These feel nice except I noticed the curve from the hip doesn’t continue smoothly, it becomes a vertical line at the waistband and it gives me an indentation there (these are going back). They also look SO plain to me. I think I’d like my premium jeans to be a bit more “showy” somehow.

4) My trusty Levy’s Too Superlow 524s for reference because, apparently I cannot fill the calves of some new “skinny” jeans, they get folds from the knee down, but they are snug in the thigh because of my quads Compare the calf-fitting on these with the two premium :(

I also ordered the Paige Jimmy-Jimmy skinnies & Indio plaid skinnies. And this is only looking at skinnies so far! Do you have a recommendation of a Brand & Style for me to try knowing what I’m looking for and seeing the photos for my body shape? Thank you for all your help!
