However: disclaimer, total bias as I've added rouching to things and enjoy larger prints! </p> <p>I hear the comments re material but the swampiness of your region's summers generally comes with frigid AC, so I don't think it would be terrible for more low-activity activities.</p> <p>As someone who owns a dress with a bottom half almost just like this one, though -- one thing to watch out for is twisting and rising when walking. Make sure you test that and remember which undergarments work. I have a PSA on the forum re a last-minute switch to a slippery variant which made my birthday dinner memorable in a different way -- if it's like mine you may need "tooth" in your fabric for the skirt to stay put. [No problems with subsequent outings, ha.]</p> <p>The TopShop one feels...ok. If you end up with 1 or 2 of the existing black skirts remaining in rotation I don't know how much you'd grab it. With tailoring could be a good workhorse for days you're outside a lot -- grab and go without much thinking. The fit is good. I don't think it's too bum hugging (I have this issue too). It seems to drape nicely and not pull.</p> <p>I'm not a big fan of the Topshop skirt...I feel like it looks bulky near the top, probably because of the pleats. If you are considering a hack, I would pin up the hem amount first and try it on with your tops. Since you wear your tops untucked, you might end up being cut in half, with the length of the top equaling the length of the skirt. It mskes the Topshop skirt look blah by comparison. For me these could not be summer skirts because , for me, polyester is a winter fabric. Now nylon mesh is a different animal. I have a nylon mesh skirt that I love. It is 2 layers of mesh so breezy but does not need a slip. These two skirts arrived today, and I’m working from home so I got to try them on.</p> <p>Full disclosure, I am feeling very bloaty today and I’m at my peak size/weight right now, so anything I try on at the moment is as snug as it is going to be (my workout routine is going to amp up soon, and now that I’m done vacationing, my eating habits are going to get under control). </p> <p>These are pretty much styled here as I would wear them — simple top, simple sandals (plus jewelry). Ignore my lack of makeup or attention to hair. </p> <p>I love the Preen skirt. The colors and style are right in my wheelhouse. It is a fitted style, and I think even if I sized up it would look very similar. It’s very stretchy and ruched, and that kind of fabric never “hangs” on me, so I have to be ok with this fit. From the side it does sort of hug my bum, but I’m ok with that as long as it doesn’t emphasize my saddlebags. It’s a great light weight fabric for our summers, yet not see-through, and it is comfortable to wear. </p> <p>I love Topshop skirt in a retro 90s way. I had a favorite black and white print skirt back in the early 90s that I wore to death. It is also lightweight and the slits provide some movement and show a little leg. I like that the print is sort of abstract until you get a closer look. And it fits well. I don’t love that there are little pleats sewn into the front — the button placket pooches out a little even though the waistband is not the least bit tight, but that’s only evident if I tuck a shirt into it, which I will never do. </p> <p>I still have a couple more skirts on the way to try. At the moment, I own a total of five skirts, two of which are black, so I could justify a couple of new skirts for summer if I love them. </p> <p>What do you think, YLF friends?</p> <p>PS. I could also envision wearing these with tights and boots in cooler weather too. </p>
