Thanks again. I spoke with my doctor and have made an appointment for an ultrasound this coming Friday. She didn't seem to concerned but wanted me to check it out anyway.

It can be a variety of causes but yes get yourself checked. Peri menopause can start in 20s and 30s ( I started in early 30s and was done before 40) but you should have exam and blood test to confirm and rule out other issues. Good luck

My excellent doc gave me the rule that incremental changes in cycle in your 40s are nothing to worry about but that a sudden dramatic change at any age should get checked out. I hope yours is nothing citygirl! But if you come up with a great solution for perimenopausal bloating let me know - I swear my waist measurement changes 2-3 inches over the course of a day.

My mom had a uterine polyp that turned out to be benign and it was giving her irregular bleeding at just your age. Since she had had breast cancer previously, as you can imagine she didn’t take a wait and see attitude. Best not to make assumptions.

I agree, sounds like perimenopause to me too. But I agree that it never hurts to check with your doctor. One of my BFFs was getting maybe five or six “real” periods a year for a few years before they stopped completely.

I was ridiculously regular (but often VERY heavy) for the last few years before my hysterectomy five years ago, but increasing symptoms of fibroids and no signs of my cycle stopping finally pushed me into the surgery (often women can wait out fibroids until menopause, when they often shrink to the point where they are not problematic anymore). At almost 53, I’m now happily (mostly) on the other side of my menopausal symptoms! Good luck!

Sounds like
peri-menopause to me. Sometimes women can go for months (even a year) without having a period, then suddenly it comes back for a month or even for several months. I've had it happen myself. I am getting closer to sixty now so it's been a few years back. I had a late pause I guess.

Truly, it sounds like perimenopause to me. I had the exact same experience starting around that age. Of course you will talk to your doctor but I wouldn’t worry.

You all have been a great help. I did call me doctor and she did call me back when I was in transit. She said she'd call me back today. Anyway, I'm hoping it's the start of a new stage in my life and nothing negative.

It's probably the start of your menopause. But I recommend that you see your doctor-- to check whether everything is normal, and to get answers to your questions and perhaps some valuable advice.

Based on my experience, I would emphatically say welcome to the joys of peri-menopause. However, it is always wise to check in with your doctor for peace of mind. Best wishes.

I just turned 48 last month and I’ve noticed changes this year. I have a very regular cycle that’s shortened to 24 days. I have more spotting several days before my cycle begins. Then all of the sudden this past winter I didn’t have it at all for 64 days but now it’s back to its regular 24-day thing. It’s probably just perimenopause.

I've had the same kind of stuff and I saw my Dr. She said probably perim. but I asked her to do an ultrasound just to be sure. I've known people who blames their symptoms on pm but actually had ovarian cancer. Peace of mind and all!

My weird changes similar to yours started when I was 45. They went on for a year, and although I still had periods, my gynecologist announced me officially in menopause when I was 46--according to his tests.

Pay attention. One friend had weird symptoms was misdiagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and a couple of years later confirmed it was perimenopause. Some of us get swollen joints with hormonal changes.

Not sure where to turn so I come here looking for advice. As one who's had a normal period all her life, I've suddenly come upon some irregularity in my monthly cycle (some light spotting on and off the past 2 weeks, light cramping, bloating). This is the first big change I've experienced this year so not sure whether to see my doctor or to wait a few months to see other symptoms arise.

So...is this the beginning of my pre-menopausal symptoms?? Just as an FYI: I get regular paps every year and all results have been normal. My periods were also normal except that they don't last as long as they used to.

I'd appreciate your response.
