I also add in price of dry-cleaning or alterations.

For some reason I also mostly count only "full days" of wear, as in work days for me. So my weekends mostly end up as "no-clothes days".

I really enjoy tracking what I wear (must be the geekiness in me). Some findings are unexpected - for example, with some cheap items I find that they wear out (fade, etc.) before CPW goes down to the level I expect from most of my clothes.

Kkards, I find it very useful 'after the fact' in that what we *think* we wear and what we actually wear can be quite different. Obviously a handbag you carry daily is a no brainer, but maybe that pair of beautiful pumps only comes out twice a year after all, when you thought for sure you would wear them a dozen or more times, for instance.
Then we can learn from our patterns what mistakes to try and avoid in the future. And also see what real workhorses we have that we didn't really think we used as much as we actually do.

i do this before i buy, as in, its a handbag and i'll use it everyday, so its really only XX per use.

what is the purpose of doing this once you have bought it?

Atlantia - another veteran, and dear forum member Kate wrote this a while ago:

Some of her explanations were very helpful for me, but I don't keep track of as much information as she does.

yes, but ideally cost should include alterations and dry cleaning costs as well. A silk shirt that you have to have dry cleaned each time after wearing is more expensive per wear-wise than a similarly priced machine washable cotton top. I keep track in excel and have two columns for cost, one purchase price, one with such costs added.

It's easy enough the way I'm doing it. I wrote the item and price at the top of each notebook page, then underneath I write the date I wore it and in what combination of other items. So I can kind of see cross-use too. Today I noticed that the last time I wore the leather Theory blazer it was with the Gidigios too!

I don't track but, if I did, your example is how I would do it. Maybe you can set up a spreadsheet with a function so that if you enter the cost and then update the # of wears each time, it will spit out the CPW for you.

I don't know what PPW is either. But it's it's something about Cost Per Wear...i don't do it. I can either afford something or i can't and my brain tells me what i'm willing to spend on what regardless of how many times i'll end up wearing it. >_>

If it's not related to that than just ignore my previous paragraph!

Yep - that's the way that I figure it. But, what is PPW? I'm assuming that you're referring to CPW - but, I'm just drawing a blank as to what that first "P" might stand for!

@Atlantia - I'm not a spreadsheets kind of girl, but I put my wardrobe, including shoes and accessories, on an Excel spreadsheet and set up the formulas, so that when I enter the date that I wore it, it automatically calculates the Cost Per Wear for me! I Love it! But, it wasn't my idea - I got the idea from Kate!

Because of our weather and my lifestyle, I seldom wear something for more than a few hours at a time. I feel funny counting a wear when some of you work all day and really WEAR your items all day.

Yep - Cost of Item / Number of Wears = cost per wear. I've been using Stylitics for the past couple of weeks, it tracks CPW for you.

Yeah, I'm more of a ballpark CPW tracker. I've taken to using slashmarks for each $20 increment. So my MuuBaa moto is 7 slashmarks ($140). I remove one every time I wear it.

I may change to more exact tracking next year. But yes, one wear of a $25 item makes it $25 CPW at that time. Two wears would be $12.50 CPW, etc. etc.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you just divide cost by number of wears. So first wear is one wear, 50/1 = 50 and so on.

When you calculate PPW, does the first wear put it at cost? For example, a $50 item:

1st wear: PPW = $50
2nd wear: PPW = $25

and so on. Right? I am tracking all new purchases and want to be consistent with whatever makes sense.
