It looks lovely on you - very streamlined for that kind of coat, and If, as you say, you can layer under it, it should keep you warm enough for all but the coldest weather. I think you should get lots of wear from it from now into spring.

Is it possible to unpick the faux fur trim?

Hi Meredith, yes it has the fur-collared hood which I zipped off for the pic. Would not be averse to wearing it under the right circumstances, but it's not for everyday.
My biggest hesitation on this particular coat was that it may not be as warm as I'd wear for our coldest days. Also one reason it looks streamlined to me is because it's not super-puffy! So that is kind of a trade-off. That opens the door as to whether I failed to fill a wardrobe hole, had created a hole that did not exist, or to not think of it as a "puffer" but just that I found a fun coat for the coat capsule. .

I decided to look at it as a fun and useful coat, recognizing it as having triggered the "emotional response" and yet serving a good function, lightweight, easy to wear, and does layer over jackets, which currently only my long black wool overcoat does.

Then, Angie's post on short-term lists and updating lists hit home, because I realized even if this coat is not super-warm, I don't need to keep "puffer" on a list as a must-have. Winter is nearing end and next year I can re-evaluate coats overall.

I must say upfront my experience of puffers is from skiing holidays :0 Having said that, I think this looks very flattering. Nice length & I like the grey.

Well, hello there coat twin. It looks great on you, and I'm pretty sure I bought the same coat a few weeks ago (only mine has a hood...did you unzip the hood?). I've been very happy with mine so far...I think its about as polished as a puffer gets and like you said it is not too warm for temperatures hovering around freezing. I was really happy to fill this wardrobe hole with something so nice at this time of the year when pickings are slim. I think it's a fab coat, and while it might not have the longevity of other brands I have do doubt it will serve you well for several seasons and your cpw will be pennies. Hope you will love your coat as much as I do!

Very nice! Good choices, IMO. The double zip, the colour, lack of logo, length, shaping - really wearable.

Thanks, Suz! I can't take too much credit for the "patient" part because I did end up getting something the same season I started looking, though I hadn't expected to. But I did feel as though I listened to that inner voice on the ones I didn't buy, or the one I returned.

Some of you contributed very helpfully to earlier puffer-quest posts.
Maybe puffer is not the word, since I'm not in the Arctic north; more quilted casual. Anyway, I hadn't found the right thing and wasn't really looking super-hard and had kind of abandoned; no worries.

Then I made another swing through Burlington, doubting there'd be much new or different, and I found this Kenneth Cole "down" (down + feather) quilted coat all by its lonesome, after I was about to leave.

Here is where the PPP fell into place.
--The first thing is the fit and shape. It just feels right. It is a bit shaped for pear but not flared so has the right shoulder-hip proportions. Angled baffles, easy-entry side pockets. It's a little shorter--about 32 " in this size, and I could have gone 34"--but achieves the full torso coverage that I want, instead of just jacket length. It has the ubiquitous faux fur collar I don't want but the hood zips off, which some hoods did not. It has a 2-way zipper. It is not as heavy and warm as the Eddie Bauer, no knit cuffs, but I had decided (with some good advice from YLF) that one was too warm and it'd spend more time in the closet. It's dark gray, and I had decided the light silver and pearl puffers were too light, if I had a choice, and I wanted a bit darker. Yes, I could have gone lighter to a more medium gray, but this is definitely not-black, especially in daylight with the sheen of the fabric, and yet is not too "look at me", and is gray rather than bronze or taupe (colors I love but have moved away from). I think I am sensitive to the color because I don't really live in puffer country, and I like its being a little more conservative. In cold weather I like to wear my colorful scarves, and the purpose was not actually to be the "brightening" coat, so that's all good. I had decided that I would target a more spring-weight wool "day coat" or walking coat as my "pretty color" coat, if I come across one.

It has the tiny logo that is actually removable. That is a deal-breaker on lots of clothing, such as MK, that often has lots of dangly MK zip pulls that can't be removed, or some puffer/gear coats have large plastic brand names plastered on the sleeve. The price was pretty modest--I would have paid more but again, it's part of a coat capsule for fun and not for subzero survival gear, so I did not actually want to have to think of it as a major expense/investment.

So, I think it ticked the right boxes--more of a goal of a casual but warm look, not so warm it's saved for the polar vortex, washable, and really versatile (jeans or workwear). The can't-wait-to-wear-it feeling.
Of course, I don't know if it'll hold up--washing and such--as EB, LLB or Lands End coats are very good quality. The heavy EB coat was quite nicely made. Will have to hope this one is "appropriate quality" for its purpose.
