If, after consulting with the tailor, lengthening them doesn't work out, do see if you can make the pant legs narrower. Then the shorter length will work better.

Thanks for all the help. Here is what I've decided: I have to buy a pair of black pumps anyway. I will try this suit with new black shoes when I buy them and see if it looks good. If it does, then I will decide whether they need to be taken out or not depending on the height of the new pair. I will keep you posted.

Take it to the tailor and find out - it sounds like it can be done!

To Maya - obviously you don't have a flat butt. My COH Huttons (both of them) are just as long as that nordie's photo, and one leg seam is completely frayed already. I think what happens is that the jeans slip down just a tiny bit as the day wears on, because I don't have much of a butt. Also that leg is the one that is shorter because I am apt to cross my legs.

If there is no wear at the hem, the tailor should be able to take it out and get rid of the crease. What is the fabric? Lower heels are another option, but like Angie says, you have to commit to the length.
The suit is gorgeous on you!

You won't know if there is a fade line until you take it down. The other option is shorter shoes. Take it to the tailor and see what they say- you certainly have plenty of fabrinc so that's a good thing.

I think three inches is plenty. Even one inch can make a huge difference. I had a pair of skinny jeans taken up too much, and just had them let out an inch and they're perfect. I bet if you take them to a tailor they can even steam out the "ghost seam" for you.

Thank Ele. I am surprised that you think I usually dress in dark colors. I tend to think that I wear lots of color, but you are right they are usually very bright and loud.

Ok, so I checked the hem and I have about 3 inches of material. Do you think they can be taken out?
Also, Ele I can't visualize what you mean, do you have any pictures of your pants?

Bella, I agree with others that the pants are a touch too short, BUT I wanted to say how lovely it is to see you in this gorgeous light colour! I'm used to seeing you in darks and dramatic tones, and this makes such a fresh, sophisticated change! (Not that you don't always look great :)

Also, so Shiny and Maya's point- can you let these out any? Even if you only have an inch to play with, consider having a tailor put a facing on the hem instead of turning up the self. You'll need a fabric that is similar in weight and colour, but that way you can get the entire length of the trousers, minus a scant 1/4" for sewing to the facing. I've done this before when length was at a premium, and it works well- it makes the hems super crisp-looking, too!

Depending on how much you have invested, could you have them let out as Maya suggests, or tailored into a cigarette pant and wear with those cute heels you have on.

Such a beautiful suit.

Bella, is there any material that can be let out? If you let out some length, and wear a slightly lower heel, you might get them to work. But, unless you can get another inch out of them, I don't think they'll be able to work with these shoes The suit would still look very sharp with another pair of shoes though. In fact, maybe a contrasting pair would be even better since these are sort of the same color as the suit.

Ok, thanks for confirming my fears!:) I knew that they were on the shorter side but I think I secretly wished that you would tell me they were not. :)
Shiny is right that the cut of these pants is more forgiving compared to flare pants, but Maya made a really good point about the view from the side. It didn't occur to me to take a picture from the side angle but I am sure that it would not look any better. :(

So, now that we have established that they are too short, can you help me with what to do about it? I think I will make a separate post.

Here's a good picture of what I mean. If you zoom in, you can see the pants aren't all the way to the ground. It's just enough length to keep them from getting dirty or bunching too much.

I can't condone anything I wouldn't be comfortable wearing myself, and these would just feel too short to me. Sorry :(

As for dragging, I have to disagree. If the hem length is correct, it should not be a problem. Sweeping the ground does not mean skimming the ground. I keep my dress pants 1/4" from the ground and have never had a problem with them dragging or getting dirty.

The view that really bothers me is the side view, which you don't have pictured. I don't personally like to see more than 1/4" of heel, just the toes sticking out from the front.

From the back view -- if it's the length of the left leg, I think you could get away with it (although I would wear them longer myself). The length on the right is too short. Shiny does have a point of light colored pants dragging on the ground!

Angie's not here so I will throw in my two cents and then when she gets back I'll get a wet noodle (a gently, graciously applied wet noodle, LOL).

I would wear this in a heart beat, and not have any qualms. Yes, I do like a more floor-skimming length, BUT, with a suit like this, it's silly, because the hem will drag in the dirt and quickly become disgusting.

Because it's not a wide leg or bootcut, I think a shorter length can work okay. If it were flared or wide, I would be saying differently. But, it's not.

I think the length in the back is perfect - considering the light color of the suit. This won't drag on the ground. The length in the front seems a tad higher than in the back (as is often the case with hems.. when mass mfr'd they make them even all around, but few of us are equally distributed front vs rear). The ideal in front is that you have a bit of a break about an inch above the hem. I suspect you have some hem there to work with - an inch? If so, I think this is salvageable. I would have your tailor keep the back as is but make the front a tiny bit longer, by taking the hem out just maybe a 1/2 inch? So it won't be even front to back - it will be uneven. But I think the effect might work okay.

It might be simply how you are standing in the pic, but in the back view pic it seems like your right leg is longer than your left, because the hems hit differently there too. This is VERY common (it's the case with me too). It's particularly common with women, because we cross our legs all day long, which leads to acquired leg length discrepancies. So even if this was PPL, you'd *still* have to take it to the tailor. (Or do lots of yoga stretches to undo the effects of leg-crossing).
