I think the ideal length is in between - a bit longer that the regular but not quite as long as the other pair. In a pinch regular would work (especially with booties) but if you have a choice why not go for a longer option? If you do not wnat to hem a bit you cna wear the rolled and still get full length.
I also ordered them to try but they went back. The fit was not 100% right for me and the plaid was to subtle and close to a solid dark denim for my liking.

I'd assume shrinkage and go with the longer ones. This is one of those "been there, done that" things.

i like the longer ones becuase i like to be able to control my own destiny. wash and dry them once or twice, then hem then exactly where YOU want them.

I think #2 looks best but I'd worry about shrinkage once you wash them.

I find GAP shrinks a lot, so I'd probably go with the longer version and assume they'll shrink a few inches.

I like scrunch, personally. I also like the option to flip the hem under and modify the length depending on what look I'm going for. Some shoes look great with scrunch (to my eye). Some look better without it, or look better shorter/ankle length, so I'll flip the hem under temporarily for the day.

I prefer the look of the shorter pair too but I find scrunch often doesn't look deliberate to my eye. I know that is me though because I have trouble with not having things look "just right".

I just checked the link and they are now sold out. Looks like you got them just in time Elizabeth.

I think you're right Eliza, I should take the time to figure out exactly what shoes I might wear with them, and take photos. Cuz obviously there is no hard and fast "you shalt do x" on this one!

Thank you all for your input!

Would it help to show them with your most likely footwear options? If you want to wear them with shoes, vamp and heel heights could make a difference. Like the pants on you!

I prefer the shorter pant. I'm not a fan of scrunch. Opinion seems to be split so perhaps it just depends on what looks better to your eye.

I'm usually a tall, too, but for skinnies lately the regulars have been working best especially for ankle boots. That way you can roll or cuff them with ankle boots...my tall skinnies from last year are problematic to wear with ankle boots for that very reason but are fine for tall boots. Just a thought....

The shorter ones are borderline too short. I vote keep the talls and hem them to about 1.5" longer than the regulars are

I like the shorter ones better. They still have scrunch at the bottom, and it looks intentional.

Thanks ladies! I think the longs are the winners. If the regulars are borderline, I think it's smart to be cautious. Since I have the option...

I like the pair in the tall size the best too. I think the regulars are borderline. They could shrink in the wash. Fun pants!

The longer ones looks best to me. U want puddling/scrunch at ankles. And like u said u can always hem them up if they seem too long!

After kicking myself many times for not reacting quickly enough to the plaid skinnies that Janet and Aida got a month or two ago, I spotted these plaid jeans at the Gap and figured I had to give them a go. Not quite as "exciting" as Black Watch (but I do already have black watch wool trousers, so maybe it's a sign...) but perfect for my wardrobes colour scheme nonetheless. I really like the way they fit, so am curious what you think of the length. I ordered them in both regular and long. the first two are the regular, the second two the long.

I don't want to be restricted to wearing them tucked into boots, even though that's proably the way they'll get worn the most. Do the look regulars too short to wear with shoes? I'm fine with there being too much scrunch in the longs, as they can be hemmed, after a few trips through the dryer. But if I don't have to do that, obviously I'd rather not.

Thanks!
