I love trumpet/mermaid skirts, but I do think that this one may be slightly too casual for the embassy capsule. I think it's the fly that I don't like - I wonder if you could turn it around so the zip goes up the back or side? Not sure if the cut of the skirt would allow for that though.

The shape is stunning on you - if you can find a dressier skirt in this shape I think it would be a winner!

I like the skirt at this length! But the pulling across the front cheapens the look - know what I mean, jellybean?

It is quite snug indeed Angie, but I thought that is how mermaid skirts were supposed to fit. But if that is the case, maybe I shouldn't even bother altering it to midi, but just donate? I am trying to get rid of everything so-so I own, no matter how much I like the idea of an item.

Yours is absolutely stunning Angie! Yes, I guessed that was what you were probably thinking of. I was just hoping that maybe I can make this one work. Wishful thinking, I assume.

Almost there :)

It seems a little snug - no? That's the spandex component causing it to pull up, which is accentuated when you walk. Does that make sense?

I was thinking more along the lines of something shiny - here's mine.

Thank you very much Kari! I was pretty much suspecting the same myself, but it is always good to double check.

Tanya, I think that between the casual fabrication and the zip fly, it's not dressy enough for cocktail wear. I really like the idea of this outfit, though, with a dressier fabric.

I promise that this is my last post this evening on this topic Another item Angie has suggested for the cocktail wear capsule is a dressy maxi skirt. I have had this skirt for years and i think I wore it grand total of 2 times. I have kept it thinking it would be useful for exactly this type of situations, but am not sure if it is dressy enough. I love the shape, but the material is not-so-dressy; a cotton/rayon blend with some nice texture. I have tried dressing it up with with a sparkly little sweater and glitzy bracelet ( needs different shoes, obviously). Again, would this work, dressy enough? Unlike the other items I posted, this skirt has not other use, so if it does not work I would shorten it to a midi and wear in other settings. I have tried to include a photo of the texture but it did not turn out that well which I apologize for. I need a better camera at some point.
