My mom, um I mean Santa always put the best gifts in our stockings. We would save them and only open after all of our other gifts had been opened. I am trying to continue the tradition with my girls. I fell in love with these stockings on Etsy, they are really gorgeous in person, made from upcycled cloth/blankets.&nbsp;Most of our house is pretty simple, slightly mod, so these don't really work with the rest of the house - o well, I like something slightly off through in the mix.&nbsp;</p> <p>Inge - so interesting to hear about other traditions. My great-grandmother was from the Netherlands and would talk about&nbsp;Sinterklaas but it never made sense to me. I never new if she was talking about something completely different or if it was just a language/elderly issue. That's why parents will often decide to celebrate Sinterklaas in the weekend before if the 5th is on a school night. Do children have holidays on Dec 5th? </p> https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/post-your-stockings#post-1117437 Wed, 18 Dec 2013 18:57:44 +0000 Inge 1117437@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ <p>Ah, we do do that yes, but for a different holiday: Sinterklaas (celebrated on 5 and 6 December in Belgium, the Netherlands and other European countries, all with slightly different traditions).<br />In Belgium it's mainly a holiday for the kids, they leave their shoe at the door or at the chimney (Sinterklaas walks the roofs of the houses and his assistant "Zwarte Piet" climbs through the chimneys to deliver toys and sweets). They fill the shoe with a carrot and sugar cubes (a treat for Sinterklaas' horse, and often there's a small bottle of beer for Piet and a cup of coffee for Sinterklaas too). Sinterklaas (our version of Santa) always spoilt us rotten. We used to get quite a few toys, chocolate figurines, marzipan figurines, and a large gingerbread man (about 1.30 metres in height). Here are mine. #1 has the library/music room stockings belonging to my daughter, her family, stepdaughter, and her family. #2 is the dining room side of the fireplace with my husband and myself. We have two missing this year&nbsp;that usually hang here, my stepdaughter and my son. </p>
