:) Forgot to get back about the environmental norm. In warm weather it's sandals everywhere, from flip flops to dressy ones like I usually wear. People usually wear heels and dress up quite a lot to the networking events (used to) I go to.
The pencil/tube skirts I usually wear work best with heeled sandals, but flowy midis could be ok with lower heels since they're more casual. Not sure I want to overhaul my whole wardrobe again like that!

Well, now that I think about it, if I'm not at work, I'm probably not wearing shoes at all

I’ve been working from home since 2018, so now I only wear heels when I go out. And now I don’t go out! So I’m not sure if I will be able to tolerate heels again. I still much prefer boots and sandals to sneakers but I doubt I will be able to wear a heel over 5 cm again, and would definitely prefer flat or nearly flat. A little platform might be a nice compromise.

I’m eyeing some blue slings on Nordstrom.com, but I’m thinking I have no reason to wear them. And they, like every shoe, don’t look that comfortable... not for the all-day standing and walking I do.

Closed toe shoes for me are a no go 6 months of the year-except trainers for exercize, which are miserable in our summers.
*looks up cycling sandals*
New question: anyone try cycling sandals?

When we still could go for walks, all I wore was sneakers outside and birks or fit flops inside. Like Runcarla, I do need a bit of cushioning and some support and cannot be barefoot. Now that going out for walks is not allowed, I live in my birks, and ocasionally fit flops. I tried to use a comfy pair of loafers the other day, just to "test" and I took them off within an hour. It doesn't help that my apartment is very warm (even when it is cool outside), and my feet get swollen with hot weather. So, I am also thinking if I will be able to wear all my shoes again.

I do so love just padding around my apartment barefoot, or shuffling around in cozy socks or slippers. I AM excited to wear a new pair of sandals out when the weather gets warmer... so I might as well make them my "inside shoes" for the time being!

So happy to see I'm not alone in re-thinking footwear. Of course I should have known I could count on YLF to give some good consideration to the topic!

Continuing with low-heeled sandals seems like a good way to go forward, post-covid. Unless the environmental norm is to wear high heels?

The main post-covid change for me has been to rethink my purchasing and just be more mindful about it in general. So i am planning to wear one pair of closed toe shoes all summer, and two pairs of sandals (one dressy and one flip flops).

I'm getting a lot of mileage from my new pink slippers around the house. For a shoe lover, it saddens me to see my cute footwear sidelined in favor of my Hoka One One sneakers, which I use for my daily hikes/walks. It may be time to replace them since they starting to look a bit worn.

Thanks all! Think my normal dichotomy of barefoot at home/ heels for out and about makes me an outlier :)
Already last year I wasn't reaching much for the highest heels, though not ready to pass them on yet. Agreed about the buckles Joy. They're so fussy and too much extra work. Glad there are so many slides now :)
Yes to a shoe post Angie!

Yes, post Q could be interesting. I don’t wear outdoor shoes inside but have some new shoes that usually get to be inside shoes for awhile. I mostly wear slip on loafers-like slippers, but they have gotten uncomfortable so I have been wearing mostly new sneakers that are semi-slip on ( elastic laces) and they keep my feet happy. With warmer weather coming and a dislike of hot feet, I ordered some espadrille type closed shoes, but am not sure if the ankle straps with buckles will work out. They are a pain to get off and on right now and I’m not sure I feel secure with their rather high platforms so they may go back. On the plus side they are Naturalizer and nude-for-me tan with white grippy soles and seem cool enough to serve as sandals and were on super discount.

I had an at-home lifestyle Before Covid, so absolutely nothing has changed for me footwear-wise. I must say it has been interesting to “eavesdrop” on people here as they figure out at-home footwear that feels comfortable and polished. Makes me feel a little less nutty/weird!

I have been trying to wear normal shoes for a period of time in the house on days when I’m not getting out, just to 1) feel dressed, and 2) not let my sock-covered feet get too comfortable. It’s hard on socks too.

I just know that moving forward, I’ll be continuing to be even more selective with comfort in footwear. Some older pairs with higher heels or other comfort issues will be leaving my closet this year.

Suntiger, I think we're all rethinking footwear! It makes complete sense that shoes feel odd after two months of what you wear at home. I'm in the same boat.

You'll probably adjust what you wear to work, but also incorporate what you used to wear too. It will be a combination and evolution of what works in the new normal.

I don't wear sneakers to work with clients unless I'm wearing a suit, a very pretty dress, or it's the NAS. I might loosen my own rules though. Not sure, but will think about it. The world has changed, and I am changing with it.

The longer I am out of wearing non-sneaker shoes, the less I miss them.

Yes, I have been thinking about shoes too. I can’t imagine wearing my regular shoes any time soon. But sneakers are also not solution for me - because of my back pain, I still can’t easily bend down to tie the laces- I need something like loafers or slipon sneakers, or mules maybe? Not sure.
My previous experience after foot injuries and pregnancies is that you do eventually get used to all kinds of shoes again.

It's been interesting to see how many people do wear shoes in the house on here. The only person I know irl that does is my mom!
I used to have hardwood floors too, but bare feet or socks were always fine for me.

THIS!!!: "I've gotten so accustomed to bare feet or socks all day now, that shoes just really make me unhappy in general."

I disinfected my favorite sneakers to try to wear them at home on Monday, and ending up changing into slippers within the hour. My feet don't like our hardwood floors, either and get achy if I walk barefoot too much, but squishy slippers or no-slip socks help with that.

I just can't truly relax with shoes on in the house! I get antsy if I put them on and have to wait for DH even a few minutes before going out!

I turned a new pair of sneakers into “at home only” shoes a couple weeks ago, since my feet were not enjoying slippers all day, every day. The only change/addition I’m contemplating is some “at home only” Birks for warm weather. Otherwise, I’m looking forward to wearing all my shoes, post-Q, whenever that may be. My life right now is either sneakers or Danskos.
