Of course, working from home or some type of hybrid model needs to continue. One habit/practice I am happy to see fall by the wayside is handshaking. I avoided it before the pandemic and now I will nod in acknowledgment when meeting someone. Hand sanitizer is my best friend. Also, I wonder what my part-time usher job will look like in the future? Will I have to wear a mask along with my radio headset while working a performance? I will stay tuned and adjust to the situation accordingly.

We've had many local shops and restaurants close, but others were able to pivot and survive. There are many new businesses opening here now, also.
House prices have gone up- not what we needed in the middle of a housing crises. I'm waiting to see how the city will deal with the judges orders to clean up Skid Row.

Our lockdown was short sharp and hard - although Auckland has had further ones. So it is hard to compare especially when for the bulk of the population there is no real chance of catching Covid at the moment.

I have been to live theatre, sports and a rock concert. I have been on an aeroplane - once. I do contact trace daily. All our staff have come back to our office despite giving them remote working options. Friends and family say the office culture has really changed with less people coming in - will be interesting to see the flow on from that for employers and employees in terms of loyalty.

Retail is suffering and tourism - hospitality is spotty as some do well and others struggle.

What else do I want to see “stick”? Paying with plastic being widely accepted in Germany! I’d also like to see a general shift away from butt-in-seat time towards getting the job done.

I think about this too and agree with a lot of the points above. I do hope that mask wearing becomes routine, no cold or flu for me this year and I am convinced that is why. I have my doubts though, living in Michigan there are many who resist even now and that won't change.

I’m finding it hard to imagine going to a packed concert or a full arena for a hockey game . Being in a closed space with that many people is inconceivable now . And truthfully ? I’m not sure I’ll miss it . All of this has made me rethink where and how we spend our money - and lots of things aren’t as desirable as before . ( crowded bars or restaurants etc) I wouldn’t be surprised if masks were here to stay for a long time as well as maintaining distance from other people in line ups etc) .

Fashionwise... More mega-corporations, less diversity in retail. Goodbye to small boutiques and independent brands. More factory/packing work, less if any in-store positions. Social media becomes THE most important scene for fashion and advertising, if it wasn't already. And masks/visors/gloves is essential wear.

I wonder about this. I live in NZ where there are no community outbreaks at the moment. In my experience zoom meetings have become popular and myself and colleagues often meet online now as an option. It beats crossing town in traffic. However many things have returned to how they were before. People have got very relaxed around hygiene and scanning where they have been, and sometimes I forget that there is a threat, and the borders are still closed. I live in the most risky place in terms of being close to the international airport and around the areas where MIQ workers seems to go, but people around me have returned to a lot of the old habits. I think online learning has become popular and people had to upskill very quickly and maybe more people are shopping online. There was a lot of baking and renewal of homeskills....it would be interesting to know if people kept that up.

Oh, Joy reminded me...I have participated/watched remote town meetings (planning board, etc.) ONLY because I could do it from the comfort of my couch. If I had to go out at night I to attend I know I wouldn’t bother. So I think Zoom meetings have in some ways made it easier to participate in town government, which is good.

Zoom meetings are nice to attend from the comfort of home and those who are ill, recovering from surgery or watching grandchildren in another state can still attend safely. I thing shopping and education has changed for the future. Working remotely will probably stay with us. DS1 is counting on it although I remember that he complained a lot at first

I don’t think we’ll go back to the way things were in 2019. I think some changes will be permanent. My tech/software kids and hubby have been told a full return to the office may never happen. Their companies have done well despite remote work and office rents are crazy high around here...a smaller footprint with alternating days for employees might be very cost-efficient.

I personally hope masks stick around for some situations...plane travel, flu season. But I’m a germaphobe from way back...I’ve had a PURELL in every bag and in every car for years LOL.

Outdoor dining became huge around here too during the pandemic, and this is a cold part of the country. While we didn’t dine out (or in), restaurants set up space heaters, igloos, fire pits, and closed down some roads so tables could be set up outside for diners. It’s been kind of neat seeing the innovation that comes out of difficult times. That’s the silver lining of the pandemic, I guess.

Definitely hoping for the continuation of telework, the ability to do telemedicine when possible, and outdoor dining and exercize. The slower life, reduced (non recreational) travel, and focus on the things that matter is important to me to continue. I will be much more selective about my time commitments than I used to be BC19!

School districts will never have to make up snow days again - at least not those without internet accessibility issues. Tutoring will become easier through virtual meetings. Virtual classes will make it easier than ever for adults returning to school. Telehealth visits for routine check-ins on how a medication is working and for mental health issues will become far more common.

What I would LIKE to happen, but I am not convinced will: better handwashing/sanitizing practices; increased distancing/personal space, more routine wearing of masks for travel or in crowds.

Well, I don’t know about some special types of food workers. But for common food- borne pathogens, “ it’s the hands, stupid!” ( not directing that at you). So I don’t see making worker suffer with masks all day. But a big yes to lots more hand- washing.

You know, I’ve eaten ‘out’ more than I have in a long time because I can order online and then do a walk with Lilypup to go pick it up. And I’ve really liked the SF Ballet’s online season because I can watch with Lilypup and NOT go into the city, which is a complete nightmare thing to do. I really doubt I’ll pleasure travel abroad ever again... I’ve done my share...

Do you think even after we can go back to "normal" we will retain some of our pandemic practices?

I think that wfh and distance learning can be good options, even if not everyone wants to do it all the time.

I would say that online ordering is going to stay popular, whether or not you pick it up in store.

I'm hoping that masks remain mandatory for food workers.
