No - not delicate or pixie-like at all. Very large mouth and strong nose - tall, wearing black and white horizontal striped skirt that hit a couple of inches above the knees, black tee and black jacket, funky, chunky, wedged black strappy (thick strapped) shoes with a nude colored micro-fishnet looking tights. And she had attitude - like "I am a strong, confident woman and I can wear my hair like this and get away with it, NOT because I am beautiful, but because I am smart and sure of myself." I loved it!

Marley, I am sending you a big old cyber-hug for taking the time to think of me during your day!

I too love that cut (you're talking about the first one, right?) and the funny thing is I brought it to someone's house Saturday night and all three guys there gave it a huge thumbs-up. I would have thought it would be the man-repeller cut.

So what did this French mademoiselle look like? Lovely, delicate and pixie-like or with *ahem* "strong" features like mine?

I do now have the fear that I will look either like an orthodox Hasidic man or the victim of a kindergartener with scissors. I think I'm going to take the picture in and ask my trusty hairdresser whether I'm out of my mind.

Can't wait to see what you plan to do with your hair!

Hey Una - just wanted you to know that I saw a woman today who looked around your age and also looked like she had your hair "type" and her hair was cut and styled as the model in this post - AND it was absolutely FAB - I mean, she stood out as edgy, stylish, stunning, courageous - I just couldn't stop staring at her. I finally approached her and told her that I loved her hair. As it turned out she was French - and I can't speak french and she couldn't speak english, so we weren't able to have much of a conversation. I wanted to ask her about the maintenance of the cut - but obviously, that didn't happen.
I guess the reason I am telling you this, is because I LOVE the hairstyle that you posted - I had that cut at one time in my life and it was really fun - but I don't think it looked near as good as what yours would look because you have a lot more hair than what I do!
I am about ready to do something radical with my hair - not sure what. I've already done the shave one side of the head style, dyed streaks of purple and red in it (not at the same time), pixie, short and long shags, variations of the bob . . . so I guess that you should take the source into consideration when I tell you to GO FOR IT!

I love the Rihanna cut. I think an a-line bob would be fun and easy. You don't need bangs so you can have the front chin length or shorter without having to worry about blending in the bangs. You could have it really tight and short in the back and taper to a bob in the front. I think it would be edgy and dramatic on you.

Hey, I typed a whole response and then lost it clicking on my own photo!

Anyway, yes, I love my stylist and she is fab. Last time I wanted to chop it all off, she suggested a body wave (back in December). That was a perfect change. Now I'm dealing with a half-grown-out wave that is very triangle-shaped and unflattering.

I don't want long hair just for the sake of it - it was always my default, but I'm not sure it flatters or interests me other than the ease of pulling it back. What do we think of Rihanna's style here?

Okay, that's good to know and certainly not an ambiguous outcome. Will keep looking. I like the Natalie Imbruglia cut but my hair would have to be thinned down A LOT for it to work, and I want to find something that works with my texture rather than despite it.

Thanks for being honest!

Part of me likes the cut, and I think you have the style to pull it off. Still, the bangs...I'm going to have to vote a soft nay. I could be persuaded, but I'm just not sure that it would be worth the risk of porcupine bangs (for me - but I'm definitely not known as a risk taker). I'm sorry!

I worry about how the grow-out on those bangs would look...and I also worry that the long side layers and short everywhere else would make you look a little like a orthodox Jewish gentleman...sorry.

I think a simple angled bob with some fierce layers cut into it might give you the same idea without being too difficult to pull off on a day-to-day basis.

I am not good at hair, and I do not have good hair. I am basically the last person you should take hair advice from. But lack of qualification has never deterred me, and so I will chip in my experience, which is that if one goes short, esp. with short bangs, one has to be very committed to maintaining perfect eyebrows.

What she said... I just got bangs for the first time in a long time and they can be wicked fierce in the morning when they want to do their own thing, so I am glad they are a little less architectural and somewhat more forgiving. (But it looks like you have much better hair than me overall so that might be just a problem with my thin fine hair.) L

I vote a qualified yay. I think the overall idea/shape could work, but I would go a little less extreme on the bangs, meaning have them a little more gently blended but still very short. Not quite so hacked away.

Count me in as a "Maybe", Una. I can see you working the basic cut very well, and I like the choppy layering and the length of the cut a lot. My concern would be the super-short, very choppy bangs, which could be very challenging to maintain in the perfect arched shape between cuts - or to grow out when you decide you want to move on to another cut. On someone with thick hair, I could see the bangs jutting straight out as they grow longer, and that would personally drive me nuts on myself. Just something to consider. And maybe there's a way to interpret the same basic vibe/length/shape of the haircut with a different style of bangs.

Here is a haircut I really really like. It is dramatic, it keeps my hair out of my face with some length around the sides. My glasses will not interfere with the style (something I didn't think of until now!). It is quite extreme, and I know it will require maintenance, but I think it will be easy in between cuts. I have had very short hair before and this style (forward direction, straight) would work with my hair.

On the other hand, the model has a perfect face, which I do not. Here's me looking grim with no make-up, horribly close-up so you can see my face shape. I'm obviously overdue for some brow maintenance.

Is this cut too young for me? Or totally unflattering? Please be honest!
