LOL Joy. Anyone less like "an old lady who couldn't dress herself"- you are light years away from that!

You had me at DIY! I love the idea of reworking items to bring new life to them. I like the picture where you have it tucked. Be sure to post a picture with the finished shirt.

Yes, sewing at least part of it shut is the best solution, although as small busted as I am, if it doesn't gape on the hangar, it won't gape on me. Life will probably keep me from this project for at least a week or two, but, if you think it will not look like an old lady couldn't dress herself, I'm game. If it works well, I may try it with a white linen shirt DS left behind.

Agreeing with Deborah, Firecracker, and Skylurker. I do like the idea of sewing it shut and pulling it on over your head.

Yes, I agree with Deborah and Firecracker, I think diagonal buttons would pull on the fabric, and gape.

I like Deborah's idea of sewing it closed, because when you put buttons on the shirt fabric, it seems you might want some reinforcement. (As it is, the buttons are sewn onto a band, which is at least a couple of layers thick.) And if you did sew the blouse closed on the diagonal, you could put the buttons on the outside--i.e.,cross the left over right rather than the other way around--so the pocket could just stay where it is. You could hand-stitch invisibly from the inside, so it's easy to take out if you get tired of it.

Yes, I intend to experiment more to get it just right. What should I do with the chest pocket. I'm thinking of pretending it isn't there or removing it.

I love the idea and I was thinking of doing this with a white linen shirt. I have considered actually sewing the the front of the shirt so that the button don't actually function and then I would have total security in wearing it. I would have to put it on over my head.

Joy, your are a genius! I don't see why not. I really like the way it looks as a diagonal.

I hope the people, Firecracker, for one who truly know sewing, repair, etc, find it possible. At least they can give you authenic advice. LOL

I like the idea of the diagonal buttons in the tucked version. I am a bit less sure about the untucked iteration--could you experiment with it a bit more so that the intersection of the panels seems a bit more intentional at the bottom? It looks like a fun way to add interest.

Do you think it would work to reset buttons on this JCrew shirt so that it would stay at a diagonal. What do you think? I would probably wear it out but it could be tucked
