So, since you posted this, I've suddenly noticed at least four dozen kids wearing black leggings and tall white socks and trainers! My eye had not picked it up at all and I probably would have remained oblivious...

I'm still not adopting it for myself, LOL.

Short puffers and wool coats aren’t warm enough for me. I used to wear wool coats and scarves, but I was made of sterner stuff back then. I’m too wimpy now.

I do like the coat in #1! But the outfit says "I went to the gym after work and put my nice coat back on over my gear". Yes- I do this But no white socks for me!
Long scarves w wool coats- maybe. It really hasn't been cold enough for a real coat most days yet.
Big yay from me for long pants- even my "shorter full length" ones are bugging me a bit. They show off my great new boots ...but make me look shorter.
Short puffers- I had one, but the arms got too tight. I'm preferring dressier coats to puffers these days though.

I looked at a lot of fall style articles yesterday. Lots of them had “how to wear leggings” or “cozy fall outfits” themes. The leggings with socks and sneakers were included in just about all of them, so I will not be surprised when I see that in real life. In fact, though I’m not a leggings person, it almost inspired me to check out my sock collection for white athletic socks.

I’m completely puzzled as to how you found your illustration pics Irina. Of course it’s not winter here now (although still colder than we like in very late Spring) so I’m not seeing the same kind of thing at all. Pic 1 is probably closest to some I see out and about.
I don’t really wear trends.

I haven't paid much attention to local fashion lately, but when I was at Stanford Shopping mall a couple of days ago, I noticed that the women wore outfits I'd see here and other online blogs--much more fashionable, especially among older women. (A week day so students still in classes.)

I do want to comment on Angie's photos above: Angie, you look spectacular. I especially love that first outfit--it reminds me of the best of the good old days, yet modern.

I work and live in two different college towns, so the dominant styles I see are things like leggings or skinny jeans with sports team sweatshirts on the students, and very utilitarian, practical looks on faculty. I would love to be able to walk around Toronto and soak up the street style :)! I do like all of the trends you've shown.

Oooh! Now these could make me tempted by the big scarf trend:
https://us.tartanblanketco.com.....edge-check

(I don’t know anything about this company, it’s been showing up on my social media a lot. I like that they use recycled wool and I find the color palettes— whether warm, cool, or neutral— really yummy.)

Trends at home among young people include high waisted pants, jeans or knits, cropped and tight tops including soft sweaters, flannel shirts, neutral colors. Oldsters like myself are harder to analyze trend-wise because I only see them at very casual times, like painting groups or grocery shopping: jeans, sweatshirts, unisex tshirts (I enjoy the graphics but not the fit), plaid shirts, any old kind of tennis shoes or worn leather loafers. Utility jackets and short puffers so far since it hasn’t been too cold yet. Also very neutral colors and combos of blues, browns, olive, grays, rust, maybe burgundy.

We traveled through Chicago, Denver and Dallas airports recently and I enjoyed people-watching. I must say the clothing choices didn’t look that much different, though travel comfort and convenience certainly played in. A greater quantity of boho looks and hats in Dallas, more hiking boots in Denver. Most younger women chose uniform leggings and sweatshirts, with a sprinkling of “hippie” skirts and dressier pants. Older women looked a bit more dressed up due to sweaters or knit tops and jeans or ponte pants. Perhaps one out of 50 wore a color other than black, gray, cream, tan, or a dark and dusty version of burgundy or navy.

The variation from neutral, super casual to colorful statements was more apparent in the men! One man’s outfit of silky matching bomber jacket and pants in a bright green, gold and hot pink giant pineapple print was memorable! A few sharp business suits appeared, but not many.

I love that all your inspo photos are in your signature palette, even if they're not looks you'll be wearing yourself. I can see why they caught your eye; the colours, silhouettes, clean lines and luxe fabrics all remind me of your outfits. I'll have to think about what's trending locally. I haven't seen much that's jumping out at me as new. Still lots of shackets, fanny packs, lug sole chelsea boots... I am definitely seeing big scarves, white sneakers, and full-length trousers.

I'm not sure what is popular around here right now, it seems like I haven't been out and about much. However, I agree with all of your points.

I don't wear leggings except for exercise and change out of them right away - ugh hate that tight feeling. No big scarf - I think I have a short neck and they just overwhelm me. Dress pants with sneakers, I would but also have a hard time figuring out full length pants. I should do a post and get some help here. And no cropped puffers for me - I need my coat to cover my top and don't wear cropped tops.

Kkards, yes I see that with the bum bags here too. I tried one and it didn't work for me. I'll stick with my crossbodies.

Legging yes-white tube socks no
Long scarf yes- but not worn hanging down more worn as a wrap
Long pants w boots more than with sneaker. But yes
Short puffers only as a sweater or layers not as a coat. My short puffers are lighter and not real coats. For me a coat needs to cover my butt.

The big all over trend I’m seeing here is bum bags worn cross body. I feel like every one under age 35 is wearing this. Interesting I don’t think I’ve seen anyone over 50 rocking this look (yes I’m guessing and generalizing). Not sure I’ll try this one, although I do generally only wear a crossbody

In HK, I'm seeing lots of #1 leggings look without the leggings lol (so, tube socks with trainers) + #2 oversized everything (mostly non-matching sweatsuit sets, some long scarves occasionally). But the biggest one is probably #3 - people wear their 'dressy' loose & long work trousers over casual shoes (here it's mostly with converse, not trainers) with a fitted baby tee or denim jacket.

I like all of the above trends on *others* but I know they'd look sloppy on me, like I forgot my pants, lol. Am skipping too, *unless* I can find chocolate velour pants to match my cropped hoodie.

I haven't seen the cropped puffer look much here (even though it works for our mild climate), but I'd be onboard with #4 if I could find one with defined shoulder seams! Whilst I like my current cropped bomber jacket, the dropped shoulders make me feel like I'm swimming in oversized raglan sleeves sometimes... Thinking back to the Classic Dressing thread, in a world of DYOT maybe *this* is the way that the younger generation plans to differentiate their style (by eschewing 'traditional' figure flattery 'rules' for oversized + multiple volume)?

I am a long scarf girl. I knitted one based on a scarf Michael Caine wore as Ebenezer Scrooge just cuz I liked the look( not the character, however he did redeem himself)
I have my eye on the Free People recycled scarf in finds recently.
I do not like hats so a generous scarf works for me.
I wear leggings with thick socks as lounge wear at home only so I am thinking that does not really count.
Cropped puffers are an oxymoron to me in my winter climate so a " no" for me.

I actually have no idea what trends are happening where I live. Not enough data points! I don't think I have noticed any of the trends pictured even though my fellow seattleite Angie is sporting some of them. Perhaps I need to run into her!

I am not a fashion sneakers gal so I will take a pass on most of these. Intrigued by the big scarves but I would probably prefer a toned down version on my small frame. Which I guess is missing the point of the trend! Oh well -- worth experimenting with, perhaps!

I would definitely take a pass on # 1 .
No leggings unless I'm working out. Maybe #2 because I like the drama of a long scarf. On the other hand, I know it would get caught in my car door repeatedly and would end up filthy in no time. Two big thumbs up from me on long dress pants over sneakers or boots and cropped puffers.

I'm actually with you on these. I do love wool coats, but not with the long scarves. It is just super impractical for mom life.

I actually have loved leggings in the past and would wear them around the house with thick socks. However... the culture where I live has been wearing leggings and yoga pants as pants for probably 10 years. I've been over it for a while! haha!

The trousers look is fairly nice, though too baggy for me. I need them fitted through the hips... Probably by the time I commit to them or even find what I want, the trend will be over haha!

I am an outlier — I love winter! I like layers and jackets and coats and boots and scarves…

That said, I’m happy doing my own thing and don’t feel pressured into any trends. There’s not a super strong prevailing “look” here — I see all kinds of styles and enjoy the variety.

Nope to leggings and socks — I hate leggings on me anyway. Only for yoga/Pilates or running.

Nope to very voluminous scarves for the most part. I have some that are more bulky but rarely need so much extra warmth. I don’t need more. If I feel the need to wear that trend, I’ll make do from my own scarf stash.

I’m all about the full length, wider legged pants these days. Today I’m wearing my dark plaid trousers with white sneakers, a white tee and denim jacket. So easy!

I’ll wear an occasional cropped jacket or coat but too short just annoys me.

I would skip all of the above due to practicality issues. I’ve never gotten into wearing leggings and I wont be starting now even if you add tube socks and runners to them, I just feel too exposed. That giant scarf would be blowing all over the place and its too bulky to wear under the coat. Super crop puffer wont cut it in my winters. Those long skirts would get too dirty in slush. I saw a bunch of teenagers wearing really big wide grey jogger sweat pants, definitely not for me either.
Gee, I’m really no fun aren’t I?

I tend to struggle too in winter.l love all the looksyou have shown but long wide pants in the rain,no!l don’t do the leisure look unless l am actually exercising or doing chores and we don’t have the heating on in the day so layers of fleece are advisable but not terribly inspiring.l agree that outerwear and accessories are the way to go.

Where I live isn’t urban (population 17,000) but it’s only 100km from the Big City. We’ve got a larger than average older demographic due to it being a popular place to retire.

The young’uns (I run into the after school set during my post swim coffee run at Starbucks) are as described by Carol above, in purposefully overlarge clothes. Grey sweats combinations, topped with plaid shackets. Sneakers or pool slides (with socks). Billie Eillish wannabe’s? In the past month a burst of French braided hairstyles (nice!)

Middle aged 30’s-40’s are wearing leggings as pants, hoodies, white sneakers, short puffers, messy buns pineapple style (very top of head) or beanies. Haven’t seen baseball hats so much.

50+ straight legged jeans, sneakers, loafers, heeled boots, mid thigh length cloth coats. Some puffers. No hats.

No skirts or dresses (too cold) and no full on winter wear yet (daytime temps = 10degC). More puffers than cloth coats over all - men and women. Lots of black and navy blue.

I think everyone is struggling a bit with what to wear. I know I am! It’s ‘coldish’, requiring some sort of topper or coat, but it’s easy to get over heated. I know I’m doing seasonally confused (bare ankles all week!) with a lightweight puffer or light weight wool coat.

Folks are way more dressy on weekends, but I think it’s Big City visitors on a mini break. We have a pretty Main Street with cute shops, and a thriving F/W theatre scene with matinees.

I was watching a podcast with two Canadian stylists (Ottawa and Toronto) and a 3rd from Copenhagen. One of them joked that in winter a coat is the outfit! You are wise to update outer wear!
