I can totally relate Cilleena, and I'm sorry you are not happy with your current do. Hopefully it will grow out soon!

I actually posted about this a while back, I'm not happy with how my hair looks at the moment either, and I do feel it is holding me back a bit (my style has been evolving to even cleaner, simpler and stronger looks, I know pretty well what I want on that front, it's just a matter of slowly collecting the right pieces). But as long as my hair is not cooperating, the complete look just looks a bit off to me.

A bit of good news though: this weekend I talked to another stylist and she immediately seemed to "get" my hair and immediately knew what would work for my hair (texture etc.). I still want to keep my pixie, just a bit longer and styled in a better way. She made a few suggestions on how to improve the current look and I'm going back to her in a month or so, once my very, very short hair has grown a bit. I feel bad for my current stylist, because I really like her and enjoy our sessions, but I've been saying I wasn't happy for over a year now and it seems she just doesn't know how to "fix" it.

Cilleena, here's another idea. While traveling once, I stopped in a fashionable little boutique and asked them to recommend someone. They referred me to a woman barber a block away who gave me an excellent cut. Guess there are no boutiques in your neck of the woods but that might work if you go to whatever is your regional city.

Thanks for the link Una! You are forever the problem solver! Those are such cute haircuts! I was after a choppy, funky cut like that, except longer. ...Like to my shoulders. The cut that you linked to is way beyond what I think the stylist around here can do though. Makes me wimper for the stylish I had back home...she could totally do those cuts on me or at least be able to tell me that they wouldn't work.

I'm right with you. And in fact - because I'm a real dunce about styling my hair and rely on having a fresh, good cut - if I have a day where styling my hair didn't work, or it is too flat, or it sticks to my face too much, then I don't feel good about how I look regardless of how fab of an outfit I have on.
That being said, I hope you are able to find a way to salvage your current cut or at least make do while you are waiting for it to grow out back into something you love!

Oh definitely. A bad hair day can put me in a funk where no matter what I put on, it doesn't feel great. So a bad haircut can really be a deterrent. The thing that has saved me is that my hair grows pretty fast.

Fortunately, I have not had a bad haircut in over 8 years. I love my stylist!

Definitely has an effect. After a disaster a few months ago I changed stylist and I'm feeling better about my hair. In the midst of the disaster though nothing seemed to appease me. Just keep trying new people. You will find someone and fortunely we can change it.

Well Cilleena, if it's any consolation, I live in a HUGE metro area and I still can't find a hairdresser or hairstyle that I like. You'll find someone, just don't give up until you do. Ask everyone you know who has even half-way decent hair. Maybe there is someone in your area that doesn't work in a salon?

Yeah, I hate to admit how much affect my hair has on how I feel. I've been in variations of my current hairstyle for 15 years, and it's the happiest I've been.
That said, it was a long time coming!!! Good luck and keep trying to find someone who "gets" it. I found taking in lots of photos and being willing to adapt what I wanted to what my hair was capable of doing helped. I recommend having a consultation at several salons before letting them cut. Or have someone style your current (not liked) cut and see how you like how they work....Good Luck!!!!

I can totally relate! I have had many bad haircuts. One time I came home from the hairdressers and hubby looked at me and said "oh well, hair grows." LOL

On the other hand, early in our relationship, hubby got a really bad haircut. He was standing near a reflection, looked at himself, said "oh, that looks ridiculous." Then he turned and went about his day. I try to keep that spirit in mind when I don't like my hair.

Also, what helps me is planning where I want to go with my hair. Then I think, well the issue is on its way to improvement!

The haircut isn't great, but what is driving me nuts right now is my hair! Since I got sick it is the same texture it has always been, but thinner and limper, but it just isn't in good shape. Even the stuff growing out of my scalp looks crummy and breaks super-easily. I can't blow dry because of this, but otherwise it just hangs.

I hate to say it but my hair determines my whole mood. I don't have loyalty to any hairdresser, although I've been with my current for over 7 years. I have to be able to 'finger' dry and walk out the door.

There is no doubt about it, you can have the most fabulous clothes and the best make up, but if the hair is not right it just does not work.
I am so sorry you are not happy at the moment, can you get in with a hairdresser and ask them to sort out better layers or something?

Thanks Marley! I have decided that I'm not going to anyone at that salon again. That is the 3rd hair salon I've nixed in this tiny area. I'm going to drive to a larger city next time and go to someone my hubby's co-workers recommend.

I don't get what the problem is though. I kept showing them pictures and there was even a hairdresser there that had a haircut like I wanted. I said, "I'd like something like that!" They said oh yeah, that is a cute cut isn't it. Her hair was a shoulder length shaggy bob with lots of layer. How I got a chin length, uneven choppy mess out of that is beyond me.

I'm sorry others have had bad hair cuts too, but I guess that's part of being a woman too, eh? I see that it could be affecting my style now. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't feeling stylish anymore. You know, where nothing looked quite right on you? I think it's the hair. Oh well, my hair grows pretty fast, hopefully it will be better in a few more weeks. Thanks for the therapy again, you fab YLF ladies!

Can't feel stylish without good hair. Hair is definitely one of my weaker links (the weakest being makeup). Speaking of hair, I desperately need a good style. I was going to wait for warmer weather to get a short bob, but now I have to figures something out for the time being.

I know I feel one hundred thousand percent better after getting my hair done last week, so although I didn't have a "poor" haircut, I think my hair being in a rut was dragging me down into frumpiness. Do you have a regular hairdresser? If so, I would see what he or she suggests to give you a little hair boost without losing your growout.

I was feeling pretty good about my progress on my style journey, up until my last hair cut fiasco. I was growing my hair out and liking it better and better as it got longer. Then, I went in for a trim and the hair dresser chopped it off. Now, I feel frumpy and uninspired. I'm trying to make the best of it, but I really think it's affecting my style journey. I feel rutted and uncomfortable. Like nothing really fits my style anymore. I guess it could be the season changing and not knowing what works anymore.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced a set back in their style journey because of a poor hair cut?
