A mid-thigh length works really well on me, and since my torso is short there is a good chance the length would be good, but I wonder about the boxiness. Boxy cuts are not often my friend unless they look really deliberately oversized (my big leather vest, my faux shearling black jacket). And in my very limited experience Everlane doesn’t cut for hips.

Anyway, I love it for YOU and can’t wait to see pics of it. Thanks for sharing that info.

Janet -- I'm going to post some picks of the blazer soon. The fabric has nice structure and beautiful drape. I can see other YLFers (I think Gryffin and Greyscale?) have raved about it. I've been waiting for Everlane to re-stock it for a looooong time. I generally find shorter jackets much easier to style and more flattering, but I really love the vibe of oversized blazers and want to play around with making it work. I took my usual Everlane size and would not go larger or smaller. Smaller would definitely be too tight on my shoulders and possibly snug at the hips as well; with a size up I think there would be too much extra fabric all around. On me, it hits at mid-thigh, and I think the length helps the cut feel intentional. If it were shorter, say low-hip length, then it would risk looking kind of squat and boxy. You have several inches on me, I think, so it might come down to where that bottom hem hits.

How did I miss this earlier? I love a good long jacket and have found that I'm gravitating more to them than my short ones, but they're always such a hard fit on me.

That Everlane looks great, but I fear it would be too straight/boxy for me. Every time I try that kind of cut it falls flat because, well, hips. Would you care to share your impressions of the cut and fit?

Update: I ordered both blazers to try on, and the fleece in brown. My reasoning for the brown is that it should play nicely with my brown and burgundy and cranberry boots, and it won't turn me into a giant column of olive if I'm wearing olive bottoms. The cream was sold out in my size by the time I went to place an order.

The glen plaid Everlane blazer arrived today, and it's so gorgeous I may not be able to part with it, even if it's not the most practical purchase for 2020 (but hey, 2020 is almost behind us!). I'm waiting for the other two to arrive before I make a final decision. I'll keep two out of three maximum -- one blazer plus, I hope, the fleece, but if the fleece if "meh" then just whichever blazer works better. Once my Madewell order gets here, I'll start another thread to do a side-by-side comparison of the two.

As for blazers over gear: looks great but is it functional? My leather jacket looks awesome over my yoga outfits— but I would never wear it after yoga class because that would get it all sweaty and who wants to pay to clean a leather jacket? I fear a blazer in a gear outfit might pose the same problem.

I think a long fleece could be great. I’ve been stealing my hubby’s fleece jacket lately to wear over all kinds of outfits- he is much taller than me, so it hits me mid thigh and looks sort of like a teddy-fuzz coat.

I don’t see long blazers going away any time soon. I agree that a loose tailored but relaxed jacket is perfect to throw over more casual looks when you leave the home.

I lean to the green fleece - cream is really fresh but I wonder about marks and stains on this type of piece. If it easily washable it should be fine though.

No I think longer blazers have staying power and I think trends are overall less time sensitive these days anyway - there are still trends but there are so many it is almost a free for all (related to Angie's dated being dated).

I think that would be a great outfit approach.
I like the cream as especially looking great for indoors but might depend on if you especially like column of color and need a darker color for that. Or the blazer would serve for tonal looks and the cream fleece would then be a different look option.

I like topper #3, a sort of rust color. As I think of your wardrobe, I think this would be less boring and still work well and cleaner looking than the off white.

I like both the blazer and the long fleece idea -- though I think Lynne's point about the practicality of blazers indoors is worth considering carefully. On a similar note, will the cream fleece (gorgeous!) be a trial to keep clean etc?

I think blazers would work well for you for outer wear, but might not solve your problem indoors, because I find sleeves tricky with chores? A softer cardi might work better for indoors?

And I love the cream option, because winter is darker, and I find lightness uplifting. But if the deeper colours have that effect then for you, then Of course go that way :).

They'll all keep you warm, but winter for me is also about keeping your spirits up ;).

I like the cream and tan fleece colors, but overall prefer the Madewell blazer. I think oversized blazers are trendy this autumn. As you know we we are coming to the end of blazers as outdoor wear for the year, but I'd still layer it up (white cable pullover) and wear inside.

I agree with your last sentence--the green would slip into your wardrobe seamlessly, but could easily feel boring. Cream might take a little more work to figure out (but not *that* much; it is a neutral) but the light color would uplift your outfits a bit and would just feel fresher.

I've found myself thinking a lot about longer layers -- cardis and blazers that hit at low hip or mid-thigh, and jackets/parkas down to the knee. Part of this is that I think I'm running colder than ever (also, I keep my house colder than most classrooms/offices, so perhaps I'm noticing it more this year than in the past). The other factor is that I'm wearing gear leggings a lot and I like both the coziness and the layered look of a skirt or dress plus a longer topper over leggings, plus some mid-to-tall boots for outside. Kind of a bundled-up lagenlook cozy vibe.

Somewhat in that vein, I'm wondering if oversized blazers are past their peak or still have some staying power/relevance. I really like the idea of a blazer thrown over a super casual outfit, even paired with athleisure, and the only blazers I have currently are a bit too tailored for that look to work. I'm trying to decide if it's worth trying either of these two below. Classic plaids, modern cut -- worth a go?

I also have my eye on this parka-length fleece from The North Face. I've been wearing a knee-length waxed cotton anorak a lot this fall, and would kind of like some other long fall-weight toppers (I already have a long wool coat and a long down parka, so all set for winter-weight options). A little torn on colour, as all three of these are very appealing to me. The darker ones would be easier to integrate, but the cream/tan feels very fresh and of-the-moment... Any one in particular jump out to y'all?
