As long as there are so many dolman, drop shoulder and exaggerated raglan sleeves around, there will be need for toppers that can be worn with them. My impression is that manufacturers will ride out this sleeve trend as long as they can because they are cheaper to produce than a properly set sleeve. So I think your sweater poncho will be safe for another season.

Panchoos are really versatile I think and keep on going for seasons. Slim bottoms, and long sleeved black tees look best with them. I often team it up this way. For shoes you could use ballet flats, long boots, or even high heels for a dressier look.
And they are always trendy for me.

I've had mine for 5 years, so I doubt it can possibly be 'in' exactly. That said, while mine gets more wear simply because it's been my only sweater that fits (and I have no cardigans or casual warm jackets) for a couple of years, it is also comfy and I think looks good enough to hang on to. So I guess I don't count it as strikingly outdated.

Then again, I'm neither very trendy myself, not in a fashionable environment!

ETA: If it helps, mine looks a lot like this one, with a tie and wide collar at the neck rather than a boatneck: http://fashionoverfifty.blogsp.....oncho.html
Or like the Michael Kors one (numbered 3) here, without the turtleneck and with a shallow V with wide collar: http://socialworkcouture.blogs.....capes.html

Hi Andie, I think it depends on the poncho. I bought my 27 year old daughter a lightweight one at Nordstrom last fall. She wears it over a long sleeved tee and it has been her go-to weekend look for this past fall and winter. Do you have a link to it that you could share with us?

Are poncho sweaters in or out? Do you think they will make it to next cold season? Who wears these ponchos? Will I look older? I saw a nice gray one on sale at the mall, but don't want to invest in it, if you think it will look outdated soon or it's more a senior citizen look, not that there's anything wrong with that, just that I'm getting older, and not ready to get into those types of trends yet. Thanks!

ETA:
Here's something similar to the one I was talking about...

But has the color of this ....
