Oh Laurinda, thanks for those pictures, I went to that site (dresstheman.com) and had a great time watching all those 70' style photos and clothing. It cracked me up!

I live in a warm climate and sometimes have to/want to do serious walking. Many poly linings do not breathe well, and the experience is painful enough to induce a cringe.

I'm an 80's baby so I don't have any of the connotations that make most people cringe at poly. I have several dresses people swear are silk but are in fact well made poly. They look and feel great and laundering them is a breeze. Like any fabric, great if well produced.

I'm old -- but the scene below put me off polyester for decades.

That said, poly is much better these days, both for wicking, and as a silk-like weave.

Yeah, older polyester was NASTY!!! Today's polyester can be okay. A THICK silk blouse/shirt (like one made by Equipment) drapes and feels better than any polyester, but a top quality polyester is better than cheapo silk which will wrinkle like the dickens. Polyester holds the funk and is hard to get out.

My current pet peeve is rayon knits which can feel nice but pill like nobody's business.

All of my dry weave workout gear is polyester. It feels so much different than it did in the 70's ( I was young but I saw it and it was HORRIBLE) I have a JNY suit I just bought last month it drapes beautifully and it is mostly polyester and blended with rayon and viscose I think.

I prefer natural fibers but honestly sometimes it comes down to how does it drape? How does it wrinkle and does the fabric look and feel expensive? If it passes muster polyester will make the cut.

You're too young to know what polyester was like in the 70's, but let me tell you it left an impression so long you'd still dislike it 40 years later! LOL I rarely buy polyester because I'm old enough to remember, but am trying to have an open mind and if it feels good give it a shot. It may be my imagination but I still find the silky polyester stuff doesn't "breathe" on me (or it might just be the hot flashes that come with my age...Who knows! LOL)

All my running and workout gear is polyester however and it' works fabulously to wick away moisture so I'm not sure why I think the silky poly shirts dont... I must have a good imagination! LOL

Because they grew up in the '70s, i.e., the time of the double-knit polyester leisure suit? :)

I agree nowadays the technology is so much better, particularly with the use of microfibers, which help give the material a more luxurious feel.

I do prefer natural fibers, but will buy polyester or polyester blends if it looks and feels good. I usually won't order something online that's polyester, as I have to see it in person to make sure I like it. There are some really nice non-natural fabrications out there, but also some not so great ones.

Forty years ago polyester was everywhere and that was not a good thing. It looked cheap and held in body odor. There was a reaction against this in the form of "Only 100% natural fibers are good or acceptable."

Now, they're making polyester in much finer fabrications. I have polyester tops and polyester blend pants and skirts that I'm very happy with. I also have many items in 100% cotton, wool, or silk. IMO it's all good!
