The navy polka dot and the pink would both be fun and cute! I think the poly is fine.

If that Gap one came in a better color for me, I would go for it. I can't do that much pink. It would look fine against my skin.... but I can't do it.

The polka dots are calling me.

Don't tell Ines, but my plaid black and charcoal trench is polyester. It has saved me in a pinch when I needed a dressy looking coat. I like it enough that it was spared when I culled most other polyester items from my wardrobe

Oh! I saw that BR trench, Brenda. VERY lightweight. But nicely made and cute as they come. I think you should look at the Gap one too:

My trench is a cotton/rayon/poly and it's wearing quite well ... I would say okay to a poly coat, esp if it rains a lot in your area!

I just went and looked in my closet and one of the trenches I have is 100% polyester shell - it's the Gallery hooded trench from Nordstrom - I bought it during last summer's NAS. I think it might be the same one that MaryK has, but hers is brown (wish I'd bought the brown)...

You know what? It drapes beautifully. Very, very comfortable. Looks more dressed up than my other trench which is a Michael Kors slightly military-ish type of thing - that one is 97% cotton and 3% spandex. The MK looks more stylish but that's only because of the particular style - and the thing is? It's turned out to be an absolute lint magnet, and it wrinkles up very easily.

This is *not* the case with the Gallery hooded (100% polyester) trench. It does not feel or wear "icky" in any way. It looks really beautiful - like it's better quality than the MK cotton one, which is surprising - but true.

I would definitely try the coat you're thinking of - you might be pleasantly surprised. It's not going to be a 'stiff' material, but it will drape beautifully and hang well. It'll also be a lot more comfortable than you're thinking, and it works well in inclement (rainy) weather.

I would try it if you can return it easily. There are a lot of really good quality polys out there, and you have no way of knowing how it will hang, or feel on you til you try it. It may also be waterproof too, and that's a bonus.

I am against polyester as a general rule, but I think it might make sense for a trenchcoat. It probably will be durable and hard to wrinkle. I'd at least not rule out *trying* it, based on the fabric.

My black one is cotton on the outside with a polyester "body lining", whatever that is. Then the inner-most lining is acetate and rayon.

I'm dreaming of a spring trench that just came out from the same company where I found my black one. My hesitation is it's 100% poly. Parisian Chic says that's a no-no, but I'm not sure. I'm sure this one will be well made. What say you?
