Well, I'm a girl. I wear short-sleeved polos sometimes - mostly to the bakery. I like to wear them layered. I tend not to put up the collar. I go more for earnest and wholesome than charming and fetching when it comes to polos. You also have to be careful, as a boy, not to cross into smarmy territory with the turned up collar. If you've got a white, convertible BMW, it's probably pretty unhealthy to turn up the collar.

Hello, Heini!

I wore polos "back in the day." They had their first round of fame when I was in high school.

I've seen them reappearing in younger teens, although not (at least yet) at the college at which I teach.

As for the collar question: At 14 much of fashion is local -- what the kids in that particular school or community are wearing. If your son's goal is to look good for his peers, I'd suggest surveying the crowd at a sports event or at the mall to see what they're wearing. If he thinks more like a fashion trendsetter, then he should wear them in a way that makes his happy.

Hi all, does anyone here ever wear polo shirts? Just casually or actually as an outfit out and about? Do you prefer to wear the collar up on a polo shirt or down? The reason I'm asking this is because of my son, he's 14 and he's started going out with friends and he's been wearing a lot of polo shirts, he wants to know if it's 'cool' to have it up, and should he have the buttons undone or done up? Thanks all lol x
