Hi MsMaven - I have been on the hunt for a very low pointy toe dress shoe. My problem is different I developed dorsal neuritis (ie pain left 4th and 5th toe) but definitely aggravated by heels. Anyway, bear with me a moment while i digress. I bought the EF allot pointy toe d'orsay flats. They are actually a reasonable dressy leather and the silhouette is very elegant on. But I was thinking for a fancier event I usually like a dressier fabrication. Well I saw on EF site that the allot now comes in black suede. So I have these wending to me now. I find them very comfortable and the top of the toe box (not the point of course) is quite roomy and the leather is soft. Plus they are amost flat, so now worries about slipping forward or needing to stuff the toe of the point. Not sure that's what you are looking for, but if they fit I'll be happy to have them if I can't tolerate a higher heel. Just thought I'd pass that on!

I have bunions on a slightly wide but low volume foot as well as hallux rigidus on one foot. Sole Society's Emma works for me:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/so.....n=wishlist
The heel is 2.5" (a height I generally can't wear), but they feel lower than a 2" heel and are the most well-balanced, stable heels I have ever owned. I sized up, but I'm wondering if my true length might have worked as well. My bunion hits below the covered part, so I think that's what makes them so comfy.

As for stockings, I swear by Nordstrom Rack's ultra sheers. They are about $5/pr. and despite being control top (yech and then some!!!) they don't feel like it and aren't the least bit constricting. I had to double check an old package because I didn't believe they were actually control top. I had to go to more than one Rack to find my size and color (Size A in soft beige), and then bought the only two pair in stock. I think this is an item I will check for every time I'm near a Rack. The price and invisible look is right; who wants to spend more on something unlikely to survive more than a half dozen (careless) wears?

More feedback, more ideas! I love it. Angie and dashielle--thanks for the suggestions. I've stuck with SW, Paul Green and Munro for a long time and haven't tried other brands.

Sadie I did have a pair of comfortable Cole Haan a few years ago, but when I bought the same pair in a different leather they turned out to be unwearable. I'll look at what they have and see if anything would work.

Carole, I used Sally Hansen for years, but I didn't do well with the tube--must have put too much on. I'll get some and if I decide to wear nude stockings I could still put this on the many spider veins.

Thanks Isabel. You are right--my feet won't get much attention. My hair is now more gray than blonde, but I think the dress will work even better. I don't think I'll look so washed out either, since my new grayer hair is darker. You reminded me I should go get a cosmetic counter make up and see what changes I need with my different hair.

I think it would be great to have a selection of dressy/evening shoes on hand. DH is still working, and the podiatrist I saw a couple of days ago said he didn't think my feet will change too much more. Anyway, I can afford to have 2 or 3 pairs on hand.

Came across a website that will custom make shoes for you in any size--heel hight, style, color. http://www.shoesofprey.com

You have a great figure, the neckline is very flattering, and that color looks very pretty with your hair, although I do think you could wear a little more color on your face?
Black can look a little harsh and might actually draw attention but off black or even grey sheer hose can be nice.
You have slender legs and I don't think you have to wear a heel if the shoe is stylish, but you're getting a lot of advice from people who know more about shoes than I do so I'm only adding that you look so great in that dress I really don't think people will be looking at your feet

Ps...I can relate to your feelings about legs...I have been using Sally Hansen airbrush leg make up for a few years and it has been a real life saver for me. They just came out with it in a tube and I used that on our cruise this spring for formal nights!

Your feet sound just like mine...I have a terribly painful bunion on one foot and can't wear a heel over 2 inches. I tried so many pairs of dressy shoes for my sons wedding 2 years ago and ended up with the J Renee in the taupe...they look more silver IRL....they come in black as well. They are available in lots of sizes and widths. It was the only pair of shoes I could find that I could wear for more than 1 minute!

I have had problems with heels for years (bunions too) but these Cole Haans (65 cm heel) are really comfortable- I can wear them all night, even standing for several hours at cocktail parties. They are so great, I have 3 pair and am considering a 4th. I usually wear 6 1/2 but got these in 7. Seriously comfortable (I even bought a pair of highly touted Clarks that I gave away and replaced with another pair of the Cole Haans.)
http://www.colehaan.com/bradsh.....78_color=B...
(Finds don't work)

I have bunions and a wide for foot in general and I find Sole Society pumps to be comfortable, even in patent if I get wides. My find, below, is my pair, but they have many styles and heights, even kitten heels like you prefer. Google them as they're all over various sites.

I did not tell you that I can no longer wear a higher heel than this one, which really cuts down on my choices. I do need to wear pantyhose though, so sandals will be tricky and dressy low heeled shoes that will look good in size 10 1/2 aren't abundant. I can usually wear a 10 in sandals though.

Firecracker, I haven't tried Donald J Pliner shoes. These say 2" heel, but it does depend somewhat how the heel is balanced with the shoe.

Nebraskim I do use foot petals a lot, and they didn't help much for these shoes.

Unfrumped, it is amazing to me how just a quarter inch in heel height can make a difference. These shoes are fabric and the toe area is soft and flexible so I hope it will work.

I wish I could get a deal and get the second 50% off. I'd take both pairs--the bigger pair for later after my feet swell from standing, heat, champagne and dancing.

I meant to start earlier--I won't make the mistake I made last year with the Paul Green sandals--horrible blisters because I didn't wear them enough ahed of time.

Thanks for your ideas. I don't want to let my love for the shoes overcome my good sense leaving me with sore feet the next day.

The combination of pointy toe and heel height is killer (in a bad way ) for me. Sometimes I can do pointy flat but have only found one or 2 out of zillions. Pointy +heel puts too much pressure even with toe petals and such--I use those for almond toe and rounded toe.
The issue isn't always immediately obvious but in an hour or so I'm dying.
Material with "give" can help--suede or fabric.
I am looking at a pointy bootie right now and may do a K/R since it's kinda crazy to go there.

Those pumps are gorgeous. If the Stuart Weitzman's don't work, you might look for a similar style in Donald Pliner. I don't have bunions, but my foot has been too wide for a few SW styles I've tried, while Pliners work for me in the M width. Here's one, for example, from the company's website, which might be worth trying. It's a platinum colored version of the Find below.

I can't do pointy toes at all and I do have a bunion. When you say you "stuff the toes to alleviate the fact you've purchased shoes that are too big" I have found that if I use one of those "foot petals" type pads that you would put where the ball of your feet hit the forward area of the shoe, it holds my foot from sliding forward but does not make the shoe too tight. It keeps my foot in the right place in a shoe. I get knock-off Foot Petals at Target and they work well for me. Good luck. The dress is lovely.

So any of you who have bunions find comfortable pointy toe pumps to wear? I know the advice to size up a half size.

I'm working on outfits for my three weddings. I would like to wear this Kay Unger dress to the first wedding, and even though DH will wear a tux (he's the officiator again) I don't want to wear a long dress.

Years ago I used to wear a lot of Stuart Weitzman shoes but when they sold the brand I didn't find as much I could wear. I used to buy boots in 11s, but then I'd be wearing socks because I only wear them in winter.
So I ordered these SW Poco in Pirite Northern in size 11 and they are too big. I put in padding and arch supports and stuffed the toes and then they are too tight for the bunions.

Today I ordered them in 10 1/2 and will still need some arch support.

I love this Kay Unger dress and have only worn it once on a cruise last year. As you can see, it is a bit longer on me than on the model. Did I mention that I love the Poco shoes? I would like to wear them with the dress if I can make them work. I'm also thinking of wearing dark or even black pantyhose. My legs are getting worse and worse with veins and stuff.

Any advice would be appreciated. I sent a photo of the dress to my DIL and await her advice as to whether she thinks it would be okay. I'd love to find a midi dress but so far haven't. She's wearing a tea length dress. (She's Mother of Groom.)

#1-2 Silk dress on model and on me last year.

#3 from I think a photo from Angie's post saying okay to wear lighter shoes with darker stockings.

And the shoes.
