I like to shop on etsy...many designers will alter their creations if you approach them. I have purchased beautiful unique mohair sweaters, etc. from Germany and Canada. I purchase classic pieces from places like talbots and always keep my eye open for accessories. Fashion is a state of mind and being a plus size girl I have never let the fashion industry dictate what is relevant to my body type. I know what looks good on me so much that women who are thin are always asking me where I have purchased items. Express yourself and live in your own skin...life is beautiful!

My bestie and I are both on the small/borderline end of plus, so that's a caveat -- you get fewer options as you get larger. A lot of plus-size ladies end up at WalMart because it's all there is for their size around, and I wish there were more choices for ladies in bigger sizes.

Bestie is VERY feminine and I am very not; she is an apple shape and I'm a pear that someone tacked boobs onto. Neither of us like Lane Bryant -- the fabrications are poor and so is the workmanship.

I am fond of Eloquii although a LOT of their stuff is too girly for me. I got this sweater a couple days ago and I'm wearing it today. My husband says it's cute, and obviously I like it! I could have sized down. I went with the 18/20 because it's a longer sweater so I didn't want it tight on my hips, but that means it's a little baggier all over. I wish they didn't dual-size these things, because I'm between a 16 & and 18 on their tops chart, but I just can't get that size in knits from them. I got a striped shirt in an 18 and I'm going to return it for the smaller size.

Bestie's favorite place to shop, hands-down, is eshakti. http://www.eshakti.com They will customize clothing or do full-out custom cuts. She gets about 90% of her work clothes here, and gloats about all her dresses having pockets. And not wimpy pockets! Pockets you can put an iPhone 6+ in!

We both shop at Torrid for jackets and things. She also gets her casual tops and her jeans there, but I don't. Most of my jeans are NYDJ, and I have a few Lucky Brand, and a few from City Chic.

I get graphic tees from TeePublic. https://www.teepublic.com/ . Their sizing bears mentioning, because "2XL" and "3XL" do NOT mean 2X and 3X. I would say that their 2XL is slightly larger than a standard XL (like between an XL and 1X) and their 3XL between a 1X and 2X. But if you like high-quality nerdy graphic tees, and you generally wear 2X or smaller (or are OK with men's tees), this is a fun place.

Yes, Universal Standard is great too.

Lane Bryant unfortunately does not bode well for quality, some of the fabrics are not high end. I do shop there but I wish they had a petite section, sometimes I feel the clothing is made for Amazonian women.
