Thanks Jenni and Helena.

Thanks Zaeobi. I like the dip dye effect of the jeans too. And we have the same colour! What colour does suntiger have, I wonder? Perhaps it would be 3 of us Dark red suits me better than plum, but plum isn’t too bad. I like a dusty (brownish) plum the best.

Thanks Katerina.

Gorgeous colours, like always! I especially like how the sandblasted jeans almost look like they're dip-dyed in photo #3 - it really adds to the pooling effect of the puddled trousers.

Plum is also my colour of the year (Relaxed Plum is my 2024 word/ goal), but I agree it isn't easy - I can find burgundy much more readily, but dark red tones aren't as flattering near my face as a deep & warm purple.

Thanks Slimcat. The jumper was a bargain on Yoox. I actually bought all 3 colourways. They have been super useful over Spring.

Thanks Janet.

Thanks Angie. Especially for the K2Ks I actually wore no 4/5 to the dog park this morning (with a different top) and got lots of compliments! That’s rare for me. One person (a man) said to me he just had to tell me my jeans were beautiful and he’d never seen anything like them. (Not creepy, his wife was standing right next to him!) I just love the change from blue jeans.

Thanks Star. The leather jacket is Massimo Dutti, which is not sold here. Oddly, I found it at a leather goods shop in Melbourne. I wish that brand was sold here, the quality seems good.

Thanks Bonnie.

Thanks Jaime. I’ve been watching Gilmore Girls lately and been admiring how they wear their flare or bootcut jeans with interesting jackets. That’s a style I hope to revive!

Thanks Suz. It’s interesting that you say that. I was thinking that I used to avoid burgundy and plum tones in warmer weather because they felt too heavy. I think that changed last year when I did my Moroccan theme. I think my eye has adjusted now and it feels perfectly normal. And I am somewhat embarrassed but also thrilled to say I have a whole cupboard full of jackets in my new wardrobe arrangement :)

Thanks Sal. I wasn’t sure how the jacket would come out. I thought it might come out a deep purple, which wouldn’t be ideal. But the final colour is actually quite warm, and now very useful for me.

These plums and berries and burgundies with the cinnamon are just divine on you! It's interesting how these tones work just as well for you moving from winter into spring as they would in the northern hemisphere, moving from summer into autumn!

I love the textural interest here, as always. And also your amazing collection of jackets! I think you're right that flares seem dressier than the slouchy jeans, and they do work with your stompy boots. Why not?

I agree it can be difficult to find plum tones. I like them a lot also.

Joy, burgundy and dark plum are very closely related. I tend to wear them in the same way.

Thanks Dee. Give it a try! Besides the juxtaposition, the stompy boots also make the flares more practical for me. I am not going to wear heels to walk my dog. I just love the modern trend for flat shoes! It makes dressier items so much more wearable for everyday.

Gorgeous as always, love the rich tapestry of your combinations. I too see flares as more refine than a baggy jean, so it warrants adding them to your wardrobe even if you have the slouchy version in the same colour. I may have to try flares with a more stompy boot and see if I enjoy this more modern juxtaposition on me.

Thanks Lisa, FC, MsMaven and KG.

MsMaven, happy hunting! If your wardrobe is anything like mine you might find a forgotten treasure.

KG, I think plum is used to describe a lot of reddish or brownish purple colours, from light to dark. The colour I particularly like at the moment is the colour of this top. I think some people would call it mauve. I would call it a light dusty (or bruised) plum. It’s nice for warmer weather and very hard to find!

#1 - Beautiful skirt, and it's lovely paired with the moto jacket.

#3 - It's amazing the difference a little dye can make. It has rocketed your wears for that jacket. You're so clever!

#4 - Nice textural detail in this jumper with the mixed colors and the jacket ties everything together so well.

Plum is my colour of the year. I particularly like a medium value, dusty version of plum. Not as dark as aubergine and not as light as dusty pink. In my experience, it is a hard colour to find. And to DIY dye. Burgundy and darker aubergine shades are much easier to find.

Pics 1-2: new paisley plum maxi skirt. I think this might be my favourite purchase of 2024. It’s the exact shade of plum that I’ve been looking for. I wore this outfit last month for dinner outside when it was still quite cool. The picture was taken at night, so the photo is a little dark, but there is no black in this outfit. All berry, plum and brown tones.

Pics 3-5: my slouchy DIY plum jeans in casual daytime outfits.

The jacket in pic 3 is a Zara cotton linen jacket that I’ve had for years. It was navy blue. Although I generally avoid navy blue I kept it because it is comfortable and a good pairing with jeans. I used to wear it to work in my office days and have worn it fairly extensively for travelling. But the last time was in 2018. I recently dyed it red and it came out a deep raisin colour. Very happy! It’s gone from zero wears in the last 5 years to about 12 in the last month.

The jumper in pics 4-5 is cotton. It has a blue thread through it that makes a nice bridge between the colour of my jacket and my plum jeans. I like my colours blended. (I would call this jumper an elevated basic.)

Pics 6-8: I am enjoying the slouchy plum jeans in pics 3 and 4 so much I decided to dye a pair of flares plum. Flares read dressier to me than my slouchy jeans, so I figured I could justify another plum pair. This time, I went for a slightly deeper colour. Here I wore them out to lunch with an open knit top in brown (also DIY dye) and a light plum tank top underneath to continue the plum theme of the jeans. I know the conventional wisdom used to be that flares should be worn with heels and/or pointy toes but these days I like to wear them puddling over my stompy boots. To me, that’s a modern twist. (Modern moody bohemian is my descriptor.)

Obviously, I love mixtures of berry colours and plum! Happy berry hunting to those who enjoy these colours.
