RoseandJoan brought up the issue of Angora and Animal Cruelty in the forum. As she mentioned, this is a disturbing topic, and may not be appropriate for Weekly Links. The Guardian asks Can angora production ever be ethical? As they put it, ethical treatment is not compatible with fast (cheap) fashion or "Only buy it if you can't afford it, might be a rule of thumb."

Fascinating GOMI thread, too! How people gravitate to others doing the same brand of "minimalism." And how it doesn't need to mean having less - and indeed many of the proclaimers of minimalist style are caught out selling off their many acquisitions quite regularly.

Hadley Freeman's article: I have a fashion book from the 30's that warns gals not to spend their precious funds on Fords - the items that catch on with everybody and you get sick of seeing. But also I am wincing at the idea that you take that fallback item and just get rid of it. aiyeeee. (though I did that , once, some years ago, when I realized I was wearing too many dun colored clothes that were "comfy." To force myself out of hiding through leaving myself no alternative to do that anymore. :D) Her book, btw, is equally opinionated and quite droll.

Deborah, I've been using that clustering concept after reading the entry recently. It's been very helpful to me because, though I've done various clusters/capsules before, when she breaks it up into categories of garments, I, too, have been more clearly able to see when I am choosing certain favorites repeatedly. The way it made her notice that she needed to cull scarves. I always had trouble with that before because, you know, I like everything and feel like my wardrobe lends itself to lots of interchangeable outfits. But in reality, I may be choosing favorites and not realizing it. And this is exactly the direction I had wanted to go.

She offers a free download of the template and I find that listing things out
in the categories is pointing things up to me.

Inge not sure if this has been mentioned before but with so many Fabbers doing wardrobe edits I found this interesting. Similar concept to developing capsules. And a very manageable way to work through the wardrobe.

I really enjoyed reading this thread from another forum. It starts out discussing a handful of (debatably) minimalist bloggers, but spirals out to talk about the definition of minimalism, the difference between aesthetic minimalism, "editing minimalists," and minimalism-by-the-numbers, as well as responsible consumption, ethical fashion, blog construction vs. reality, and more. Many of the blogs that are discussed are favourites of mine. A few of the bloggers themselves even chime in. Warning: the forum the thread is from can be quite crass and downright mean. Most of the posts in this particular thread are eloquent and well-considered, though.
http://getoffmyinternets.net/f.....-bloggers/

I learned about “vertical fold and file” for clothes on YLF
several months ago and been using this method with my t-shirts, sweaters,
jeans, etc. It’s a great way to
see what I have at a glance without pulling everything out of the closet.

It didn’t occur to me that this same method could be useful
for travelling. It was a light
bulb moment when I came across several articles featuring Shaun Huberts of http://howtopacklikearockstar.com/ where he explains why and how he packs
this way. He also has a book by the same title with more pictures, lists, etc. I plan on testing this out the next
time I travel but I have a sneaky suspicion that I will love it as I already
love using it in my own closets.

Aha! And this is the other link I wanted to post. I came across this blog this past year, and it's one of my favorites. The writer recently posted her 2013 Purchases Recap. It was interesting to see all her purchases summed up visually. For one, I can see the consistency of her style, and for another, it seems like it would make one far more aware of what they have purchased, than merely saying, "5 skirts, 12 sweaters", etc. I think I am going to start taking photos of purchases, and put together something similar for myself at the end of this year...

http://pretaporterp.blogspot.c.....recap.html

I always look like I'm in front of a firing squad, so I thought Peter Hurley's work was fascinating. Take your pick of whichever you like best:

Squinching your eyes, which he claims makes you ooze confidence and self-assurance. I think it looks good but don't automatically think "confident."
Maybe he figures that's the selling point with everyone.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/fem.....l-photos.html

and a fifteen minute video showing how different people can look when they
move their face in toward the camera and then drop their jaw some, "creating" or restoring a jawline. This was fun to watch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe3oJnFtA_k
