I have a couple sets of hats/scarves/gloves that match each other or match one of my 2 coats. That allows for different combinations and it prevents the boredom of wearing the same outerwear for 6 long months

I would get a plaid scarf, and then matching felt beret and wool gloves that go with the scarf. Presto changeo - you look fab!

What a beautiful cranberry color! I really like Inge’s idea of tonal matching with another warm berry color. But lots of other colors could work too: forest green, deep blue, light blue, cream or pure white would all be lovely, or any metallic—gold, silver, bronze....

I don’t have much to say about hats, but for the rest, I suggest you pick up a simple set of gloves & scarf, maybe in pink, then find a gorgeous scarf and observe yourself to see which you wear more often—that one or the simple one. I like big squares that you can fold into a triangle and wear over your coat, loosely tying the ends in front. When it’s really cold, put the scarf on first, big point in front. Wrap the ends around you and put the coat on top; you’ll be warm and cozy, and will look good too. These are some I’d like with your coat.

Look at Alpaca hats and scarves. I think I got mine on amazon and eBay. They are hand knit with beautiful patterns and the hat will slouch over my ears. A cream color would look nice with your beautiful coat. I have been wearing mine for years and they are as good as ever.

Another beret fan. My styling tip for really cold days is to drape the scarf or shawl over my heat and pop the hat on top. Then I bring the tails off the scarf under my chin or across my lower face and mouth!) and put the coat over top. The hat holds the scarf in place and the scarf keeps ears, neck, and face warm.

Re: hat choices for cold ears: I can't wear tuques or "beanies" because they just slide up to the top of my head and pop off. I like berets for this reason; the knitted kind, not felt. They can be tucked under the ears to keep out the wind and to prevent the sliding problem. With that lovely coat, a beret or cloche will add to the romantic, retro feel.

Colourwise? I think you need at least two complements. One in white or ivory knits. And depending on how dressy or casual you skew, a Fair Isle complement (not necessarily all the pieces), or a black +/-wine one in leather/fur/velvet. Or both, if you have my long winter and brutal climate.

Great recs as always Inge My wool coat is similar and im hunting too, especially cloche hats. I have some velvet gloves that are furry at the wrist though and i find they compete with sleeves too much though. And if youre looking at furry stoles, longer works better, then they can be wrapped. Otherwise they just sit awkwardly from experience. If you live or work near any boutiques, theyre a good source for interesting accessories. Also, a simple hat can be dressed up with a flower or feather or otherwise fun brooch!

Another thought: would earmuffs work? Depending on how cold it is, I can sometimes get by with earmuffs and no hat.

And how about leather (lined) gloves and a faux fur scarf or stole?

I'm adding some examples below.

P.S. The puffer scarves are unique, maybe a bit too sporty for the coat?

Your coat sounds stunning, Em!!

Colour-wise you could do lots of things: go tonal with burgundy hat, gloves and scarf, grey or silver, navy or ink, blush or pink, cream, cognac etc. I also love the idea of an animal print (either cool- or warm-toned) because it's an easy way to add a chic touch.

Would a beret work (some don't cover your ears, others do), or maybe a cloche?

Here are some examples:

Em, I am quite obsessed with Inouitoosh scarves since buying one recently myself. They have really interesting patterns, the complete collection can be found on the link. Two scarves that I thought may be beautiful with your coat are in the photos below, but there are many that would work with such a classic coat. Once you have the scarf, I would then get a simple plain coloured beanie or beret to wear and co-ordinating plain coloured leather gloves.

Your coat is stunning and there is no need to wear black with it! I have included in finds my scarf, which is a bit more whimsical, being patterned with owls, even this scarf would be nice with your coat.

Here is a doppleganger for my winter coat. Mine is double breasted with a large portrait collar that I can button to my neck, but this is about right:

https://www.therealreal.com/pr.....-long-coat

My boots are black knee-high suede; my hair is dark brown.

I desperately need gloves, hat, and a scarf. Right now they are all black and it depresses me. The hat needs to keep my ears warm. I canNOT find anything to complete this ensemble that looks chic. I've toyed with fur, cashmere, fedoras (I don't like fedoras) and come up with nothing. Under no circumstances will I wear a hat with ears. I don't even like pom-poms.

What do you fashionistas recommend? Thanks.
