I third the recommendation for Tilley hats. They're indestructible, float and wash well. DH and I each have one for sailing and yard activities and love them.

Yes, I have to double Tilley hats. We went on a small guided tour in the Amazon a few years ago and everyone had a Tilley and swore by them. Otherwise, I would also recommend LL Bean or REI.

Tilly hats are wonderful for men. They will last a life time and there are several options. I think personally they look pretty good on most men. They are on the pricey side but the quality cannot be beat. My DH has had the same one for over 20 years.
http://www.tilley.com/Hats-Men.aspx

Not a particular style, but check REI, and Bass Pro Shops. Make sure you taker hubby with to try them on- hat fit can be tricky if his head isn't a standard size.

...a beach/lake hat for men? My hubby requested this but he didn't have any particular style in mind. Just one with a brim to protect the face and back of neck and can get wet. Any suggestions?
