Ladies you are amazing!

CocoLion that watch is gorgeous but a bit sportier than I am after. I too have strap problems. I don't like the metal ones you have to adjust as the watch always slips to the back on me, the leather ones can't take the water so much and I kill them in no time and I break out in a rash with the other. This is why I liked this brushed metal one. It has springs that keep it on at exactly the right size. It slips up and down my wrist like a bracelet but does not slip around to the back. The big square face is always front and centre. The amazon site is amazing, thanks.

Well MissVee that Links of London watch is more than I want to spend unfortunately.

Deb I've been stalking the Fossil site for the past month or so. Since I want a bracelet style that doesn't meet in the back I haven't been trying the mens watches. I think I want a big geometric watch face with a bracelet that is airy or delicate enough not to seem overpowering. Target should be coming to Canada soon...

Thanks Velvetychocolate I never even thought of looking for a Canadian site for Amazon. I will be researching for sure.

That good sensible watch I have has a white face, black honest to goodness numbers with lines for the minutes and a second hand. Pretty important when you have more places to go than time when at a hockey game and you have to be back in your seat in sixteen minutes! I do need these features for more than hockey though

I often shop online for gifts for my friends/family in Canada, and wanted to mention to you that Amazon Canada (amazon.ca) has excellent deals on nice watches. I don't have a specific recommendation, but you might want to look around at Amazon Canada's watch section:

Another suggestion - check out Links of London. Their Driver watch is gorgeous - a good sized face and a quality strap. They are about $800 though, carried at Holt Renfrew. (Merry Christmas??).

I got a colorful Invicta watch, the Angel series. It has a large square face, and is bright orange. I insist on leather or rubber straps, not the metal kind you have to get adjusted. This might be too sporty for your style, but I have gotten lots of compliments wearing this watch.

I love watches and always have my eye on new ones. I found one I love from Michael Kors at Costco a year ago, and the orange watch from Invicta is my one for this year. This is about the rate at which I find a watch at the price and look I want -- once a year. My advice is be patient, and it will present itself.

MissVee thank you, we are not Costco members but I have friends who are so can check them out. I was at the Bay the week before last and nothing there. Yes the brushed metal silver tone is what I'm after.
I can't live without a watch so luckily I have my good one and another bracelet type. When the preferred watch quit I took out the brand new battery and it fit an old not quite right cuff silvertone one.

Thanks ladies.

Geargirl unfortunately it isn't worth repairing as I'm sure it would cost triple what the watch originally cost and the quality isn't good enough for it to last.

Suz thanks for the ideas. None of the sites that I've tried have that option. I have been going blind looking at thousands of watch pictures that won't even let you modify the search for face shape.

About a year ago I bought a new good watch and even though I shopped and shopped got convinced to buy a nondescript nothing one. It is fine but certainly doesn't add to the overall impression. Joy's WIW for the wedding was way better than a novel on this topic as the lightbulb went on in a flash.

Have you checked Costco? They are carrying some very nice quality watches these days, especially if you like the silver tones. Also, The Bay has a good watch selection . I know it's hard to get just the right one - you might have to pick up a cheapie just to tide you over.

Freckles, I've noticed that on some website (Endless, I think, and maybe also Nordstrom's) they give the watch face measurements. So you could browse for something of the same shape/size and then perhaps either order or look in regular stores with more information about what exactly you want.

I am "watchless" at the moment, too. Still looking for the perfect specimen.

The cheap watch I bought has failed. In the end though it seems I absolutely love it. Joy's wedding pictures really made me realize how much a larger watch plays into how great you look. I really love the square face, bracelet that is on hinges and the brushed silver of it. Have been looking both online and brick and mortar and found nothing similar. Help please.

Sorry for the bad pics.
