TRUE - great great point. And as a size 16, I find shopping demoralizing, and will often just buy anything I can find that fits my body okay, whether or not it looks at all flattering or reflects my style goals. And this leads to a closet cluttered with lots of items that just aren't quite right. It's a bit of " chicken or egg " dilemma: not feeling good about ourselves can lead to cluttered homes and cluttered homes can also lead to not feeling good!

Mac, I think you have an interesting point and it would make a good separate post. But I just wanted to say that I think you're right. I can decorate my home as cutting edge and as contemporary as I want -- but I can't do that with my size 16 body. On the other hand, I think that when your life is cluttered and you're unhappy with your size, etc, your home can reflect that clutteredness. It's pretty interesting how our living spaces reflect what's going on inside.

Yup, I'm tall - just a hair under 5'11. And thanks to you, Angie, and to all of you forum folk for being so gentle and making it (relatively) painless to post my photo. I feel bad about my current shape, but I'm starting to "get" that this doesn't mean I can't improve my style or deserve to look the best I can.

Thanks for commenting positively on my house, too. I didn't mean to show so much of it; that's the only full-length mirror in my 3-storey house and that's the only one of many photos I took that seemed to clearly show my whole body.

I might make a separate post about this, because it's an issue that's been taking some thought for a while. I think that interior design and clothing style have a lot in common: colour, texture, proportion, finding something that is both functional and also reflective our our tastes, etc. I am MUCH more confident in my decorating abilities than my abilities to dress myself well because 1) my house doesn't gain and lose weight constantly (if a sofa fits in a room this month, it'll definitely still fit into that room in 6 months time); 2) I can look at my house dispassionately and evaluate its best and worst features clearly without emotions/ self-loathing/ cringing which is something i'm never able to do with my own body; 3) I can find unique items all over the world travels that work in my house whereas in many locations - eg. Asia, France, Italy - flattering clothes for size 16 women don't seem to exist.

Okay. I will put this in another thread, since this one should just be about my body and its shape, but I'm very curious to get y'alls thoughts on interior design and how to relates to personal style (specifically clothes/ hair/ fashion/ makeup).

Bless you, Mac. I’m proud of you for posting a picture. Well done!

You look TALL. Are you tall? You are definitely a pretty pear with a cute little waistline. Love your long legs! And your house looks stunning. Very yummy.

Thanks; what a sweet comment. I certainly don't feel like a very slim size 16!

I just have to say that you are a very slim size 16! We are the same height and I also wear a size 16 but I look MUCH heavier because I am an apple and carry my weight in my belly. Lucky you!

I also noticed your floor. Pretty!

Thanks! I'm confused, too, by all the different shape definitions "out there."

And thanks for the compliment about my floors! They used to be a lovely hardwood, but that had to be ripped out when the contractor found some rot in one of the walls so I replaced it with the 30s-style checkerboard marble floor I always wanted. It's starting to show some wear; the the occasional scratch and stain but to me that just gives it additional texture and history : )

Mac, I think you have it spot on- I am seeing a pretty pear, too! Not sure about apples but then they always confuse me- maybe someone else can help.

I must say that Trinny & Susannah's world just confuses me. There are so many shapes and some seem to overlap, it's just a big old mess! Again, someone else will probably do better with this question.

OT, but I really dig your retro tiled floor. I've always wanted one like that in a kitchen, but in that room, with all the wood, it's so Mediterranean! Love it

Ugh. I temporarily swallowed my mortification and posted an almost-full-length photo of myself on photobucket.

http://s878.photobucket.com/al.....shape2.jpg Password: MacYLF

I assume I'm a pear - pretty... or otherwise - with some apple-ish tendencies.

Any thoughts on what shape i'd be in Trinny & Susannah's world?

And, on Angie's suggestion, I took Kendall Farr's book out of the Library (The Pocket Stylist) and it's wonderful but I have no idea which of her body shapes I'd be.

I'm a hair under 5'11 with a long waist. I wear size 16 clothes and a D-Cup bra.

Thanks in advance for your help.
