I think that's because the fabric is a bit stiff. I laid it over the top of my current coat and they are the same measurements. I think the gray one will probably work fine, but I will try on some more jackets with it before I decide for sure. It sounds like you are leaning toward the first one, although the fit really does seem to overwhelm you. The second one is more flattering, but still isn't suitable, IMO, if it feels too snug to layer or it you aren't as comfortable in it. The stores will be filling with coats soon.
