I am with the rest and for the same reasons. I think #2 is best for the fit and the collar. I also like that the buttons add contrast and detail.

The black may be nicer in person though since black does not photograph well and detail is lost in the pic.

I would go with #2 and thT is coming from someone who loves black:). The black looks big and the color just looks too "heavy" on you. The grey fits better, and suits you much better:)

I love #2. Perfect fit and perfect length. #1 is good for heavy layering inside but looks a bit larger for your body.

Of these two I much prefer #2 for the closer fit on tiny you. Is it bad that I pay very little attention to coat length and dresses/skirts? All my coats are longer in winter though for max warmth. The first coat seems to swamp you to my eye.

My 1st coat is wearable, but the fabric is really cheap so #1 isn't that warm, and #2 it's pilling really badly. I need to use a fabric shaver to clean it up. I can understand it doing that a little but it happened fast and I don't think the coat is going to last very long.

Question about the gray... it isn't knee length, so does that mean I can't use it with dresses or skirts without looking odd?

Then I would say go with two.

I am not looking forward to winter coat shopping. I have to confess the one I have is not stylish. It is nicknamed Big Red, but I figure if I fall in a snowbank, I am easier to see.

Honestly, though, I bought the coat for warmth not style. When it gets down to -35F I care very little about style and a great deal about warmth.

I can layer with it, it just feels snug. I think that's because the fabric is a bit stiff. I laid it over the top of my current coat and they are the same measurements. Sometimes "snug" really means "it fits" when you are used to things fitting looser.

This will be a winter coat. Our winters are pretty mild.

I think the grey looks really nice with your colouring, so if it's a choice between #1 or #2, definitely #2. The grey colour makes your skin glow.

My biggest concern with choice two is the ability to layer.

Is this just a fall jacket or will it take you through winter as well?

It pretty much is between these two because I'm on a Burlington Coat Factory budget and these were the best classic coats they had available in petite. I think the gray one will probably work fine, but I will try on some more jackets with it before I decide for sure. I think I can figure out how to shorten the sleeves myself since I have done lots of other alterations.

I tend to think that perhaps you can do better than either one. It sounds like you are leaning toward the first one, although the fit really does seem to overwhelm you. The second one is more flattering, but still isn't suitable, IMO, if it feels too snug to layer or it you aren't as comfortable in it. The stores will be filling with coats soon. Perhaps you could afford to wait and find one that satisfies both needs - to look great and to feel great.

Wow, the color of #2 is so flattering! Maybe that is a helpful boundary condition. Also the collar style. If the fit of that one isn't just right and you have time & patience, I'd look for something similar.

I never knew Angie recommended against black coats, but I looked it up and sure enough...she warned against them years ago. I like the feel of the black one but the looks of the gray one.

FWIW, I don't have pets and my kids are old enough to not drool on me anymore LOL so I don't know how bad black would be.

I like grey better. The black one seems too big and I don't like the collar. Sleeves do look a bit long though but I think they can be altered quite easily. The main criteria for me would be ability to layer an indoor jacket under it, this is my regular test for coats.

I'm trying to choose between these two coats. I would be happy with either color so that isn't much of a factor.

About pic #1:

Anne Klein petites
80% wool, 20% nylon
sleeves right length, I think
knee length... I like this length
bit more room for layering underneath
raglan sleeves
higher collar
no sizing down... shoulders would be too tight

About pic #2:

Giacca petites
60% wool, 20% poly, 15% viscose
sleeves too long?
very fitted though torso, bit tight for heavy layering
regular sleeves
lower collar
