I haven't read the other comment yet but prefer the black for fit and length. The navy look too big and too short if you don't want to roll them. You might also have pants shortened if rolling is a problem and you want them cropped. My calves are so skinny that rolled, they fall into place when I stand up. The exception is a pair of silk track pants with a knit cuff. The cuff wants to stay put, so I can understand your frustration.

I vote the black, too.
I have had that same problem with pants catching on my legs when I changed positions , so I found I could not roll them the extra" roll that might be ideal in some styles. It also showed me the limits or boundaries of what I might want in ankle pants so I could dabble a bit but not over invest.

I still have the Vince pants, Ummlila, and will wear those for work. They are trackish with the stripe, but since they don't gather at the ankle I wasn't counting them as track pants.

I like the Turners better, too. I tried Curators earlier this summer but they were not for me. What looks like artistic drape on other people looks like just not fitting right on me, most of thr time. What happened to your Vince pants? Just not wearing track pant stripes for work purposes?

I don't think you do have particularly short legs or wide calves -- au contraire! But this is obviously a difficult thing to get right.

If the Turners fit on your ankle bone, maybe that is the best solution?

Again, though -- need to try with some other footwear also, I think....

Can I introduce a third possibility? Try the Curators in 4p or 6p? At 5' 4", full-length pants in petite are a bit too short, but ankle or cropped pants work much better in petite.

I think the curators have two advantages. One is they look to me like they'll have a bit more style longevity. The other is they are machine washable (and the turners are dry clean only).

Ah, Sveta -- you have described my feelings about the Curators perfectly: too loose in the leg and not in the flattering fluid way. And too short.

Okay, those are going. For sure.

And Suz, I think you are right that I have to think more about PPL and adjust for my calf. I never really thought I had particularly short legs or particularly large calves, but I think the proportions of my legs are such that I have to be very careful with crops / ankle pants. (Angie is probably laughing her head off, since I have been so strident about wearing them for so long.)

I like both pants but am agreeing that the curators are too big for you. The black ones look good, verging on big as well. I'd pass along the curators just since they don't really fit. The black are great, or try them in navy, or try the size down on the curators. Hmm. Many options.....depends on what colour you need in your closet. I do like the length and leg opening on the black ones....

Hmmm. Here is my comment on that thread of Angie's:

Great visuals with this, Angie — I love the ones you’ve chosen. It’s great to see them on different body types.

If I were to wear pants 4 inches above my ankle, that would almost hit me me at the bottom of my calf. That looks more like capris to me? With that length, I find I need to wear a wedge or a heel. And then I struggle, like DV, to keep them in place — if they are sufficiently tapered they are always gripping my calf muscles when I sit, and getting stuck, so I have to tug them down — it makes for a fussy outfit. (It works better with jeans that have a ton of stretch or with loose BF jeans, but most other fabrics cause problems).

Add in the weather related issues that Thistle mentions and no wonder I’m avoiding ankle pants!

I do have that one pair from my vintage silk suit that I shortened with your expert guidance. Even though they were not quite tapered enough (and even then, they kept grabbing my calf muscles!) I did enjoy wearing them — so it might be worth experimenting with newer versions.

This is the problem I continually come up against. I think 4" needs to be reduced to 3" above the ankle to account for my shorter calf, proportionately.

Hmmm. That is a really good question. Maybe, in terms of getting the PPL -- it would make sense to go back to Angie's post on that for a little review on lengths.

I just thought that your navy pants fit much like my crops (see pic) - too lose in the leg and not in the flattering fluid way.
I agree with Suz - consign the navy curators. Turner is a nice fit on you and navy is a better color for you than the black then exchange for it.
Curator page says 24.5 in - that is WAY short!. What an awkward length! Maybe they photographed different pant for the site?
Turner says 27 in - too short for me but looks perfect for you.

I think you should size down on the navy Curator pants. They look a little big, especially from the back. I like that they have a side zip (side zips are my personal favorite). They do look nice rolled, but I've had rolled pants that get stuck on my calf and I hate that.
The Turner pants look like a perfect fit. If they are comfy when sitting or standing, I would definitely keep those.

I do think the Curators are too big on me now Suz, although DD, who took the pictures, said that the rear looks better IRL. (Still, she preferred the black.)

Here is what I don't get about the Curators. Like you, Suz, I am on the shorter side -- especially compared to models. I am 5'5". And these Curators are too big. So why are they shorter on me than they are on the model, who is probably 4 inches taller than I am? It's infuriating. I just don't get these pants at all. I do like the color but am leaning toward letting them go even though they are somewhat new.

It looks as if the Curators are too big for you now? Or am I just imagining this due to the camera angle?

I hear you on the "catching" -- pants that I roll ALWAYS do this to me. Partly the shape/ shortness of my calf, and partly (sometimes) having too thick a roll because I am also trying to wear said pants full length when unrolled...this happens with BF jeans to me. But it is annoying in a work setting and you don't want to be doing a crane dance trying to wriggle your pant leg down to its proper place as you stand up to go back to presenting. ;)

I think in part it is the curse of being on the shorter side -- the length of cropped pants falls (on me) in some no-woman's land, neither here nor there.

I love the blue of the Curator -- do they work with the Reiss jacket or not? I know they would not "match" but do they "go" for a sort-of suit? Or do the black ones work in that way?

I like the new black ones on you a lot. Will they also catch on footwear? How do they work with your booties or other shoes that you would be wearing more in the fall?

Looking at the photos, I prefer the black pair. I think the black has a better fit. They are both nice on the front views but the navy pair is a bit loose at the rear.

I vote black for the fit and think they look just as good unrolled as they do rolled.

Please help me decide what to do. Right now, I own the JCrew curator pant in size 6 in navy. I just received the Turner pant in size 4 in black. They are both made from the same matte crepe fabric, which is a nice option for work and for work travel.

Do I keep both, consign/return both, or keep just one? (For the purposes of answering this question, please assume my wardrobe can use either/both, which - in fact - it can. I have no other navy pants, and I have no nice track pants other than dressy silk ones that are not work friendly. That said, I don't need them.)

I have my own thoughts, which right now I will keep to myself. Would love your opinions.

Pics 1-5: Navy Curator pants, shown front and back. In pics 3-5, I show one rolled leg, which Angie has advocated. This is not the way they were designed to be worn (see JCrew pic) and they catch on my calf when I go from sitting to standing, which I do a lot when moderating.

Pics 4-9: Black Turner pants.
